Softball Completes Four-Game Sweep of Pitt-Johnstown

Edinboro, Pa. -- The Edinboro softball team won all four contests with Pitt-Johnstown after sweeping their home opening series with the Mountain Cats on Monday.

How it Happened Game One Sunday
Leading 6-4 after the fifth inning, Madalyn Valoroso singled home Maura Pasquale starting a three run sixth inning pushing the lead to 9-4. The Mountain Cats rallied for four runs in the sixth, but Annalise Smith pitched a scoreless seventh to hold the lead and earn the 9-8 win.

Valoroso notched three hits, two runs and an RBI. Pasquale, Elizabeth Clark, Morgan Spitler and Kearson Wagner each tallied a pair of hits. Macy Sral scored the win in the circle allowing eight runs, five earned, on 10 hits and three strikeouts.

How it Happened Game Two Sunday
The Scots jumped out early three runs in the top of the first. Valoroso plated two with a single in the first and came around to score on a Morgan Spitler double. Stephanie Krick extended the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single in the second.

UPJ cut the lead to 5-3, but a pair of Lucy Higley home runs extended the lead 9-3 in the sixth. Adeline Maguire doubled home two more in the sixth the push the lead to 11-3. 

Spitler went 3-for-3 while Higley was 2-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. Valoroso was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Lauren Bush scored the complete game win in the circle striking out 10.

How it Happened Game One Monday
The Scots hit three solo home runs off the bats of Higley, Maguire and Krick to take a 5-2 lead in the fourth. Wagner singled home a run in the sixth to extend the lead to 6-2. UPJ notched two runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-4, but Pasquale doubled home a pair in the bottom of the frame to put the Scots ahead 8-4. The Mountain Cats scored twcie in the seventh, but Lauren Bush completed the complete game in the circle to get the win.

Maguire was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Pasquale added a pair of hits and three RBI. Clark also tallied a pair of hits.

How it Happened Game Two Monday
With the score tied 6-6 after the top of the third, Maguire tripled home Isabella Becker and Wagner and later scored on a Krick single. UPJ scored twice in the fifth to trim the lead to 9-8. 

Becker singled home Wagner in the fifth to extend the lead to 10-8. Wagner pushed the lead to 12-8 with a two run single in the sixth.setting the final.

Smith picked up the win in relief allowing two runs in 1.2 innings of work. Bush came in with the Scots holding a 9-8 lead and the bases loaded in the fifth to pick up a save. Wagner was 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they host California (PA). Game time is slated for 2:30 p.m.
