Edinboro, Pa. – As the Fighting Scot softball team celebrated senior day, the seniors showed up in a big way as the Scots split a PSAC West doubleheader with Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots saw a late rally come up just short in a 12-9 loss in the opener. Edinboro completed a rally in the night cap to claim a 9-7 victory.
How it Happened Game One
The Rock took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but senior
Kayla Terwilliger singled home
Isabella Becker and
Kearson Wagner to put the scots ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the frame. Slippery Rock too the lead back in the third with a Julia Montie two-run homer in the top of the third. Senior
Stephanie Krick tied the game with a solo shot of her own in the bottom of the inning.
Slippery Rock scored three in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth to grab a 12-3 lead. Senior
Morgan Spitler doubled home Wagner in the sixth to cut the lead to 12-4.
Adeline Maguire drew a bases-loaded walk to force home
Elizabeth Clark trimming the lead to 12-5. Senior
Maura Pasquale belted a two-out grand slam to trim the advantage to 12-9 after six and that was as close as the Scots would get.
Stat Leaders
Pasquale went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored to pace the Edinboro offense. Wagner added a pair of hits and walk with two runs scored. Spitler finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Macy Sral took the loss in the circle allowing 11 runs, six earned, on eight hits while striking out three.
How it Happened Game Two
The Rock jumped out on the Scots early scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. Maguire led off the bottom of the first with a home run as the Scots began to chip away at the lead. Terwilliger recorded an RBI single in the second to cut the lead to 6-2. It was Terwilliger again in the fourth that doubled home a pair of runs to trim the lead to 6-4.
In the fifth, Spitler singled home Krick and Wagner recorded a sacrifice fly plating Clark to tie the game 6-6. Slippery Rock pushed across a run in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the frame, Krick doubled home Maguire tying the game. Spitler delivered a two-run double to give the Scots the lead 9-7.
Stat Leaders
Splitler finished the game 4-for-4 including driving home the game-winning run. Terwilliger was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Maguire also recorded a pair of hits.
Lexi Frisina recorded her first collegiate win pitching 6.2 inning of sparkling relief allowing just one run on five hits, no walks and striking out four.
