Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro football team fell 24-12 to visiting East Stroudsburg in the season opener for both team on Thursday night at Sox Harrison Stadium.
The Warriors struck first capitalizing on a high snap on the first Scot offensive play. Taking over at the 19-yard line, the Warriors scored on a 17-yard pass from Sean McTaggert to DJ Thomson. The PAT made it 7-0 East Stroudsburg.
The Scots answered back marching the ball 57-yards with a key fake punt pass from
Reed Martin to
Clayton Bezon for 24 yards that led to a Brandon Lambert 39-yard field goal to cut the lead to 7-3.
At the 4:16 mark of the first, Ty Quintois hit a 26-yard field goal to push the East Stroudsburg advantage to 10-3. Lambert hit a 20-yard field goal with 9:59 to cut the advantage to 10-6. The Warriors would take that 10-6 lead into the half.
It was another Scot turnover that led to the first score of the second half. Malachi Bowman jumped an
Isaac Bernard pass at the Edinboro 20 to give the Warriors the ball. Four plays later McTaggert connected with Siggins to make it 17-6. Deante Crawford extended the lead with a three-yard touchdown run with 1:48 left in the third making the score 24-6.
On the ensuing possession, the Scots marched the ball 75-yards in 14 plays capped by a
Bo Swartz two-yard plunge to cut the lead to 24-12 after the two-point conversion was no good. That score would hold to the final horn.
Wilfredo Diaz was all over the field for the Scots making 22 total tackles with seven solo stops and a pass breakup.
Toby Cline and
CJ Waldier each finished the game with six stops.
Offensively,
Jerry Dinkins III finished with 115 scrimmage yards with 15 carries for 47 yards and seven catches for 68 yards.
Nico Mrvos hauled in four catches for 41 yards.
Isaac Bernard was 22-of-33 for 162 yards on the night.
For East Stroudsburg, Tariq Mills carried the ball 13 times for 96 yards. TJ Harris finished the game with 10 tackles for four solo stops to lead the defense.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 6 when they travel to Robert Morris for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
