Football on the Road at No. 9 Kutztown

Kutztown, Pa. -- The Edinboro football team will hit the road for the second straight week with a trip to No. 9 Kutztown on Saturday at noon.

Last Time Out
The Scots scored a 23-21 victory on the road at FCS Robert Morris Saturday. Edinboro dominated time of possession holding the ball for over 38 minutes. Isaac Bernard was 20-of-27 for 161 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Teagan Brown was the top receiving  target with eight catches for 80 yards and a score. Caron Robinson rushed 16 times for 91 yards. Wilfredo Diaz had another 16 tackles with 2.0 tackles for loss. Tristian Waldier came up with a sack-fumble for a safety that was the difference in the game.

Kutztown is 1-0 after defeating Assumption 24-6 last Saturday. The Golden Bear defense pitched a second half shutout after taking a 14-6 lead into the half. Judd Novak led the offense with 12-of19 passing for 129 yards and touchdown while also rushing for 87 yards and a score. Jaedyn Stewart added eight carries for 41 yards. Mekhi Gibson had one catch for 58 yards while Sincere Thomas hauled in three passes for 31 yards. Brandon Hile led the defense with nine tackles and forced a fumble. Kyree Butler added eight tackles.

FCS Win
The victory over Robert Morris was the second win for the Fighting Scots over an FCS opponent. Edinboro defeated Buffalo 28-17 on Sept. 25, 1993.

PSAC Weekly Honors
Teagan Brown and Reed Martin both earned PSAC West Player of the Week honors. Brown was the Offensive Player of the Week catching eight balls for 80 yards and touchdown. After the first two games, Teagan Brown ranks second in the PSAC and 27th in the nation averaging 6.5 catches per contest. Martin punted six times with an average of 43.5 yards pinning the Colonials inside the 20 twice including a 74-yard punt downed at the 1-yard line that led to the game-winning safety.

Honor Roll
Brown and Martin join Wilfredo Diaz as Scots honored by the conference through the first two weeks. Diaz was the league's Defensive Player of the Week after making 22 tackles in Week 0 against East Stroudsburg a feat that hadn't been accomplished in the PSAC since 2007.

Nation's Leading Tackler
Diaz backed up his 22 tackles againt East Stroudsburg with 16 stops, 2.0 tackles for loss against the Colonials. His 19.0 tackles per game is the top mark in all of Division II. 

Moving Up the List
Issac Bernard continues to climb Edinboro's all-time passing lists. He moved into fifth-place in career completions with 517. He is just 51 passing yards from passing Blair Hrovat for seventh on the career passing yardage list. Bernard's 5,053 yards is currently the 13th best among active Division II quarterbacks. Bernard is also ranks first among PSAC quarterbacks with a .700 completion percentage and 21.0 completions per contest.

Seeing Red
Red zone offense has been a point of emphasis for the Scots. Edinboro is 5-for-5 coming away with points in the red zone. After going 2-for-2 with a pair of field goals against East Stroudsburg, Edinboro scored touchdowns on all three trips into the red area against Robert Morris.

Special Teams
Martin ranks 10th in Division II and second in the PSAC in punting average at 46.2 yards per kick. The Scots as a punt coverage unit along with Martin is sixth in DII in net punting with 43.9 yards per punt.  

Money Downs
Through two games, the Scots have converted 13-of-29 third downs the fourth best mark in the PSAC and have also converted 3-of-5 on fourth down. 

Scouting the Golden Bears
The Kutztown offense is led by quarterback Judd Novak who passed for 129 yards and a touchdown and is Kutztown leading rusher with 10 carries for 87 yards and a score. Mekhi Gibson has the most receiving yards with a 58-yard catch in week one while Sincer Thomas adds three catches for 31 yards. Brandon Hile is the team's leading tackler with nine stops with six being solo stops.
