Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro football team dropped a 32-27 decision to visiting Bloomsburg in a see-saw game at Sox Harrison Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 26-20, the Scots started their drive from the 29-yard line and 2:18 left in the game. The Scots completed a pass to
Logan Brooks and back-to-back tosses to
Isaiah Grier to move the sticks to the Edinboro 41. A 15-yard pass to
Teagan Brown set the Scots up with a first down at the Bloomsburg 41.
Isaac Bernard connected with
Evan Low down the left sideline for a 44-yard touchdown.
Brayden Lambert hit the extra point to give Edinboro a 27-26 lead with 1:12 to play.
Reed Martin kicked the ball into the end zone setting the Huskies up at their own 25. Bloomsburg went 75 yards in seven plays capped by a Riley Parker one-yard run with 34 seconds to play. The Scots stopped the 2-point conversion making the score 32-27.
Edinboro moved the ball to the Bloomsburg 43-yard line, but the last second pass was intercepted at the 1-yard line as time expired.
The Scots forced a three-and-out on the first Huskie possession and then drove the ball 13 plays covering 85 yards but came away empty on a turnover on downs. The Huskies again went three plays and punt leaving the Scots with the ball in plus territory. Edinboro drove to the one, but Bloomsburg forced a fumble and recovered in the endzone for a touchback.
On the ensuing possession, the Scots again held the Huskies without a first down.
Gage Galuska broke through and blocked the KJ Riley punt and then recovered the ball in the endzone to give the Scots a 6-0 lead with 14:05 left in the second quarter.
Later in the second, Galuska blocked a second punt that
Wilfredo Diaz fell on at the Bloomsburg 10 to set the Scots up first and goal. Four plays later, Bernard found
Jaret Frantz for a four-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful making 12-0 Edinboro with 8:31 left in the second.
The Huskies struck before the half when Riley Parker capped an 8-play, 7- yard drive with an eight-yard touchdown run sending the teams into the half with Edinboro leading 12-6.
Bloomsburg grabbed its first lead of the day on an 11-yard touchdown by Parker with 9:27 on the clock in the third. The Huskies hit the extra point to go ahead 13-12.
The Scots took the lead back with 1:36 left in the third when Grier made a juggling catch down the right sideline for a 34-yard touchdown.
Bo Swartz converted the two-point conversion to push the Edinboro lead to 20-13.
Bloomsburg tied the game at 20-20 on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Riley to Justin Wolfe with 5:49 to play. Riley connected with Gabe Brower for a 55-yard touchdown at the 2:25 mark of the fourth to take a 26-20 lead. Edinboro blocked the extra point setting up the two scores in the final minute and change of the game.
Bernard was 30-of-46 for a career-high 339 yards and three touchdowns. It was the third 300-yard game for Bernard in his career.
Teagan Brown caught six passes for 84 yards. Low added two catches for 55 yards and a score while Grier hauled in four catches for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Diaz led the defensive effort with 13 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss and six solo stops.
Logan Dexter notched nine tackles, an interception and a pass breakup.
The Scots return to action on Saturday with a trip to Slippery Rock. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
