Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro wrestling team had 11 wrestlers on the podium led by a pair of third place finishes by Aden Roe and Joey Arnold.
 
Roe opened his tournament with a pair of falls first over Bloomsburg's Tyler Macargryn in the first period. Then he scored a first period pin of Brandon Stiehler of Lock Haven. Roe would drop a 7-3 decision to Rider's David Szuba. In the consolation semifinals, Roe advanced passed teammate Kade Sottolano. In the third-place bout, Roe defeated Cash Henderson by a score of 2-0.
 
For Arnold, his day started with a 17-7 major decision over West Virginia's Brian Finnerty. In his second match, Arnold added bonus points again with an 18-1 tech fall over JP Hangey of Rider. Arnold was on the wrong end of his semifinal match with Drexel's Jasiah Queen dropping an 8-7 decision. Arnold bounced back with an 8-2 decision over Rider's Jacob Zearfoss. Arnold finished out the tournament with a 3-1 decision over Michigan's Connor Owens to take third.
 
The Scots also had a pair of fourth-place finishers in Anthony Ferraro and Austin Zimmerman.
 
Ferraro got out to a fast start scoring a 17-1 tech fall over CJ Carr of Lock Haven. In his next bout, Ferraro shutout Cole French of Buffalo 8-0. Penn State's Cael Nasdeo dropped Ferraro to the consolation bracket with an 11-5 decision. Ferraro notched an 8-1 win over Ethan Mitchell of Cleveland State in the consolation semis. In the third-place match Ferraro fell 10-4 to Brogan Fielding.
 
Zimmerman dropped his opening match to George Mason's Gunner Chambers 9-4. In his first consolation match, Zimmerman earned a 6-3 decision over Logan Wadle of Lehigh. After a pair of medical forfeits, Zimmerman fell 4-3 to Joshua Dragovich of George Mason in the third-place bout.
 
Brody Evans and Landon Bainey each picked up fifth-place results for the Scots.
 
Evans fell 8-2 to Rider's Zearfoss in his first match of the day. Evans worked his way through the consolation round winning 19-4 over Rider's JP Hangey. He then scored a 12-7 decision over Lehigh's Justin Onello. In the consolation semis, Evans dropped a tough 2-1 decision to Michigan's Connor Owens. He avenged his opening loss to Zearfoss with a 5-1 decision in the fifth-place match.
 
Bainey wrestled up at 133 pounds. He opened the tournament with a first period fall over Bloomsburg's Major Lewis. Bainey picked up a 3-1 decision over Geoffrey Whelan of George Mason. Kade Kluce topped Bainey 2-1 and then Anthony Clem topped Bainey 3-1 in the consolation semifinals. Bainey met with Whelan again winning 2-0 to secure fifth.
 
Five different Scots finished in sixth on the day: Colin Roberts, Nick Lodato, Gaven Suica, Kade Sottolano and Max Kirby.
 
"It was a great day of wrestling for the Fighting Scots with several place winners top to bottom and an awesome effort from our young guys," said head coach Matt Hill. "The 3^rd Annual Bobby Kauffman Open was a great success and we are proud to continue to honor his memory by putting on this great event.

The Scots are back in action next Sunday, Jan. 12 when they travel to Clarion for a MAC dual with the Golden Eagles. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. inside Tippin Gymnasium.
