Football Hosts No. 4 Kutztown in Home Opener

Edinboro, Pa. -- The Edinboro football team plays host to No. 4 Kutztown in the home opener at Sox Harrison Stadium Saturday at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT EDINBORO
The Scots are coming off a bye week in Week 1 after scoring a 29-14 victory over East Stroudsburg in Week 0. Jaret Frantz caught six pass for 78 yards and three touchdowns. Nico Marchitelli finished the day with 178 yards passing and three scores. Bo Swartz added a rushing score for Edinboro. Nate Deanes and Logan Dexter each recorded an interception for Edinboro in the win.

LAST TIME OUT KUTZTOWN
Kutztown is currently ranked No. 4 in the country after starting their 2025 campaign with a 51-14 victory over Assumption in Week 1. Jaedyn Stewart led the offense with 150 yards rushing on just 10 carries and a pair of touchdowns. Judd Novak was 11-of-20 passing for 233 yards and a pair of scores. The Golden Bears had 23 different players record a tackle on defense led by six stops from Austin Leyman. Noah Kensey added five stops.

FIRST THINGS FIRST
There were several notable firsts from Week 0 starting with the first head coaching win for Scot head coach Matt Scott. Nate Deanes hauled in his first collegiate interception in the fourth quarter to thwart a Warrior redzone trip. Defensive lineman Sunday Ikegwuonu tallied his first collegiate sack in the opener.

HONOR ROLL
The Scots earned a pair of PSAC Player of the Week honors in Week 0. Jaret Frantz hauled in touchdowns of 11 yards, 11 yards and 12 yards as part of a six catch 78 yard day against East Stroudsburg to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors. Ricco Sastoque averaged 52.0 yards per punt including a long of 62 and pinned the Warriors inside the 20 twice to earn Special Teams Player of the Week Honors.

THIRD DOWNS
In the season opener, Edinboro was efficient on third down on both sides of the ball. The Scots were 7-of-12 on third down (.636) which currently ranks fifth in Division II. The defense ranks 39th in the country after holding East Stroudsburg to 3-of-10 on third down in the opener.

BULLSEYE
Nico Marchitelli started his Edinboro career on target completing 19-of-25 passes. His .760 completion percentage is the fifth highest in Division II and the top mark in the PSAC. The 19 completions per game ranks second in the conference and he spread those 19 completions over six different targets with Frantz and DaeDae Allen each recording six catches.

HOME OPENER
The Scots are 4-6 in their last 10 home openers. Their last win in a home opener came on Sept. 17, 2022 when Edinboro scored a 23-20 overtime victory over Bloomsburg.
