Football Hosts Clarion in Hall of Fame Game

Edinboro, Pa. -- The Edinboro football team hosts Clarion on Saturday in the Scots Hall of Fame game inside Sox Harrison Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT EDINBORO
The Scots dropped a 34-18 decision to host Bloomsburg last week dropping to 1-2 overall on the season. Amari Jones started the scoring with an 87-yard interception return for a touchdown to go with eight tackles including 7 solo stops. Carlos Morales added 13 tackles with 10 solo tackles. Nico Marchitelli went 19-for-32 for 212 yards and a touchdown. Junior Aderomilen was the top target catching nine passesfor 104 yards and one touchdown. 

LAST TIME OUT CLARION
Clarion is currently 4-0 after defeating Shepherd 51-38 last Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Anthony Guercio passed for 413 yards and two scores while rushing 13 times for 60 yards. Holt Egan and Davon Jones each had over 100 yards receiving with Holt catching six passes for 121 yards and Jones hauled in eight passes for 103 yards. Griffin Buzzell paced the defense with 13 tackles, including nine solo stops. Terrell Booth added eight tackles.

THIRD DOWNS
The Scots third down offense ranks 13th in Division II and fourth in the PSAC at 51.3%. Edinboro went 7-for-13 on third down in last week's contest with Bloomsburg.

BULLS EYE
Nico Marchitelli is off to a strong start to his Edinboro career. His .643 completion percentage ranks 32nd in Division II and fifth in the PSAC. His average of 21.0 completions per contest  ranks 21st in the country and third in the PSAC. Marchitelli ranks sixth in the conferecne with 196.7 passing yards per game.

RED ZONE DEFENSE
The Edinboro defense has been stout in the redzone ranking fourth in the conference and 33rd in Division II at 66.7 percent. The Scots are scoring at a 71.4 percent clip in the red zone ranking 11th in the PSAC.

HONOR ROLL
The Scots earned a pair of PSAC Player of the Week honors in Week 0. Jaret Frantz hauled in touchdowns of 11 yards, 11 yards and 12 yards as part of a six catch 78 yard day against East Stroudsburg to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors. Ricco Sastoque averaged 52.0 yards per punt including a long of 62 and pinned the Warriors inside the 20 twice to earn Special Teams Player of the Week Honors.

JARET FRANTZ
Frantz has led the Scot offense making 16 catches for 159 yards and three scores. He ranks 32nd in the nation and third in the PSAC with 5.3 catches per game. His 53.0 receiving yards per game rank 19th in the PSAC. Frantz has hauled in three touchdown catches this season which is the third best mark in the conference.

HIDDEN YARDS
Ricco Sastoque ranks 13th in Division II and first in the PSAC in punting averaging 43.5 yards per punt. The Scots are seventh in the PSAC in net punting at 33.7 yards per punt. The Scots have committed the second fewest penalties in Division II with 12.  Their 31.6 penalty yards per game ranks sixth in Division II and leads the PSAC.

FIRST TIME
The first two games of the season have seen several firsts for the Fighting Scots.  Matt Scott earned his first career head coaching win in Week 0. Nate Deanes recorded his  first collegiate interception against East Stroudsburg. Sunday Ikegwaunu tallied his first sack as a Fighting Scot against the Warriors.  Junior Adermomilehin scored his first collegiate touchdown on Saturday as well as posting his first 100-yard receiving game at Bloomsburg.

PSAC WEST OPENERS
Edinboro will look to snap a streak in PSAC West openers. The Scots have dropped their last 12 PSAC West opening contests. The last victory for the Scots was September 14, 2011 when they topped Gannon 27-0.

DEFENSIVE TOUCHDOWN
Against Bloomsburg, Amari Jones intercpeted KJ Riley and returned it 87 yards for a touchdown. It was the first interception that went back for a touchdown since Toby Cline posted a pick six against Slippery Rock on November 5, 2022.
