Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's wrestling team won five straight bouts in the middle of the dual to take a 28-11 victory over visiting Clarion Thursday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.

Chris Vargo got out to a fast start taking down No. 33 Travis Lawson early in the first period. The Golden Eagle responded and with the score tied 6-6 after regulation, the match went to sudden victory. After a late scramble, Lawson came out with the take down and the 9-6 decision.

Clarion's Joey Fischer scored a first period take down and a second period reversal to build a 5-1 lead. The riding time point gave the Golden Eagle a 6-1 decision.

Jacob Brenneman brought the McComb Fieldhouse crowd to their feet. He got to his offense early with a take down of Scott Johnson less than 30 seconds in. He hit a seven-point move scoring the take down and four back points with a minute left in the opening period. Brenneman then got the tilt and scored a fall at the 2:23 mark tying the dual score at 6-6.

Ryan Michaels kept the momentum rolling for the Scots against Oliver Fairchild. After a scoreless first period, Michaels scored a reversal make it 2-0 after two. Michaels added a take down midway through the third to take a 5-0 lead. Fairchild cut the lead to 6-4 with a takedown, but Michaels notched a reversal to take the 9-4 decision.

Garrett McChesney and Wesley Barnes each scored an escape and went to sudden victory. In the extra period, McChesney stuffed a Barnes shot and scored a take down of his own taking a 4-1 decision to put the Scots up 12-6 at the break.

Ryan Burgos scored first at 165 with a take down midway through the first period. Alejandro Herrera-Rondon cut the lead to 3-2 with a reversal. Burgos scored a take down of his own before the end of the first to take a 5-2 lead into the second period. Rondon rode Burgos out in the second and scored an escape in the third to cut the lead to 5-3. Rondon scored the ride time point, but Burgos took home the 5-4 win.

Tate Geiser added on bonus points for the Scots at 174. He scored a take down with 10 seconds left in the first. He added another take down in the second to take a 6-2 lead into the third. Geiser escaped and scored a take down to go up 10-2 in the third. He scored three more take downs and the riding time point to score a 20-6 major.

Easton Belifore made the start for the Scots at 184 against Adrian Gacek. The Golden Eagle scored often with seven take downs to score the tech fall 21-6 at the 4:38 mark.

Brody Evans and Ethan Wiant wrestled a scoreless first period. Wiant was hit with a pair of stall calls during his ride to start the second and Evans scored an escape to take a 2-0 lead into the final period. Wiant escaped to open the third to cut the lead to 2-1. Evans held off the late push from Wiant to take the 2-1 decision.

Aden Roe ended the dual accepting a forfeit setting the final 28-11.
The Scots return to action next Thursday when they host Lock Haven at 7 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
