EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team split their season finale doubleheader against Gannon on Sunday afternoon.
The Scots took the opener 11-4 before dropping the nightcap 17-8.
Edinboro got on the board first in the opener.
Isabella Becker led off with a single and moved to second on a groundout.
Cassidy Weller hit a two-run homer to give the Scots a 2-0 lead.
Gannon cut the lead to 2-1 on a throwing error by the Scots. The Golden Knights took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.
Adeline Maguire gave Edinboro the lead back with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth. The Golden Knights tied the game on a Mia Ryan solo home run in the top of the sixth.
After a lead off fly out,
Ashley Rose,
Abigail Olejniczak and Becker all singled to load the bases. The bases remained loaded on a fielder's choice that saw the lead runner out at the plate. Weller singled home a pair of runs to give Edinboro a 6-4 lead. A Gannon error loaded the bases before Maguire doubled home a pair pushing the advantage to 8-4.
Emalie Thomas plated two more with a single. Rose picked up her second hit of the inning this time an RBI single to make it 11-4.
The Golden Knights went 1-2-3 in the seventh to set the final.
Weller led the offense going 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Rose added four hits and an RBI. Four other Scots recorded two hits.
Kelsey Warren picked up the win in relief going 2.2 innings allowing one run with five strikeouts.
Giana Ficcaglia got a no-decision going 4.1 innings pitched allowing three runs with a pair of strikeouts.
In the second contest, Edinboro took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with Maguire and Thomas each driving in a run. Gannon responded with seven runs on seven hits and one Scot error to take a 7-2 lead.
Edinboro chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the second when
Hilary Sissem delivered a two-run single. The Scots tied the game in the bottom of the third. Lucy Higley drew a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and third on an Olejniczak single. Becker singled home Higley. Sissem delivered a two-run double to knot the score 7-7.
The Golden Knights took the lead back with a tree-spot in the top of the fifth. A Jenna Clontz grand slam in the top of the sixth pushed the Gannon advantage to 14-7. Maguire hit a solo home run in the bottom of the frame and Gannon picked up three insurance runs in the seventh to set the final.
Sissem was 4-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored. Weller was 1-for-1 after taking intentional walks in her first four at-bats. Warren took the loss in the circle allowing four runs in 2.1 innings of work.
