Austin Guptel Named Defensive Coordinator

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro football team named Austin Guptel the Defensive Coordinator.
 
Guptel joins the Fighting Scots after spending the last two seasons as the Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach at Illinois College. He served as the primary defensive play caller for the Blueboys who finished sixth in total defense and fourth in pass defense in Division III. Illinois College placed four defensive players on the Midwest Conference first team.
 
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Guptel to our football family," said head coach Eric Crandall. "Over the past several seasons, he has coordinated one of the premier defenses in all of college football, establishing a reputation for excellence and consistent success. Combined with his previous coaching experience in the PSAC West, Coach Guptel brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and proven expertise that will make an immediate impact to our program on and off the field."
 
Prior to his time at Illinois College he spent two seasons at Shenandoah University as the Defensive Backs Coach and video coordinator. He developed multiple All Old Dominion Athletic Conference defensive backs.
 
Guptel also spent a season as the Defensive Backs Coach at Clarion University in 2021. He also served as the Special Teams Coordinator. He also spent time at St. Vincent College, Central Connecticut State, University of Sioux Falls and Tennessee Chattanooga.
 
In 2020, Guptel also took part in the Bill Walsh Diversity Fellowship Experience with the Chicago Bears gaining knowledge from speakers throughout the NFL. He played his college football at Benedictine University.
