Dr. Keith Lustig

Outside Linebackers
1st Year
George Washington ‘77

The first appointment that Justin Lustig made to his initial Edinboro coaching staff was a familiar one – his father, Dr. Keith Lustig. The elder Lustig is a renowned orthopedic surgeon in northwestern Pennsylvania, but is also highly-respected as a football coach. Keith Lustig will serve as the outside linebackers coach.

This isn’t the first time the father-son team worked together. They served as assistant coaches at Christopher Newport, helping the Captains to three NCAA Division III playoff berths, in 2001, 2002, and 2004. Keith was on the Christopher Newport staff from 2001-2006, coaching the linebackers on five NCAA playoff squads, in all.

A former football player and wrestler at Hickory High School, Dr. Lustig has an extensive background in sports medicine services.  He was formerly a member of Northcoast Orthopedics in Erie, and later served as medical director of Hamot Medical Center’s Sports Medicine Center. He also served as a team physician for multiple semi-pro, college, and high school teams, and was founder and president of Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine of Erie, and also a member of the medical staff of the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children.

Dr. Lustig started his coaching career as an assistant for Kenny Walker at General McLane High School, coaching the defensive backs from 1989-91. He moved on to Cathedral Prep in 1991, eventually working his way up to defensive coordinator under head coaches Mina George and John Berchtold. He would coach at Prep through 1997. Lustig coached defensive backs and linebackers on Blair Hrovat's staff at Allegheny College from 1998-2001. He moved on to coach the linebackers at Christopher Newport University from 2001-06.

After that, Lustig moved back to Pennsylvania, where he continued his medical career at the Sharon Regional Health System on the staff at The Orthopaedic Center of Western Pennsylvania in Hermitage. He also assisted as linebackers coach at Sharon High School from 2013-2015.

Dr. Lustig received his bachelor of science degree from George Washington University in 1977, and graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Allied Science in 1982. He currently resides in Sharon with his wife Mary Kay. He has two sons, Justin and Josh, who are both in coaching.
