Rich DeMaio

Offensive Coordinator
3rd Year
Robert Morris '04

Rich DeMaio joined the Edinboro coaching staff in February of 2020 as the offensive coordinator.

Under Demaio in 2022, the Scots had a pair of All-Conference choices on offense in recevier Thaddeus Standfield and tackle Gabe Hulslander.

In 2021, the Fighting Scot offense averaged 20.6 points per game and converted on 22 of 26 trips inside the red zone. Edinboro placed Ryan Pasternak and Justin Kasmierski on the All-PSAC second-team.

DeMaio spent the six seasons prior to the Boro as the associate head coach/offensive coordinator at Westminster. The Titans have enjoyed great success during that period, with seven-or-more victories the last five seasons. DeMaio's offense, featuring a balance of running and passing, played a major role in that success. Westminster won three ECAC Bowls during his tenure. The Titans had a 43-21 record in his six seasons, and 39-15 the last five. DeMaio was particularly recognized for his work with quarterbacks.

Under DeMaio's guidance, numerous individuals broke Westminster records. Quarterback Paul Columbo ended his career as Westminster's second all-time leading passer with 6,758 yards and 60 touchdowns. Running back Dom McKinley finished as the fourth all-time leading rusher with 3,367 yards, while Connor Cox ranked first in career receptions (151) and second in career receiving yards (2,169). A year ago, Cox caught 65 passes for 964 yards and 12 TDs. All three figures rank second in a season.

In 2019, Keano Grice averaged a school-record 8.5 yards per carry, and Bryce Hill's 6.5 yard average is second.

DeMaio was previously at Rhodes College for three seasons as the associate head coach, offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and quarterbacks coach. In 2013, he helped lead Rhodes to an 8-2 record, winning the Southern Athletic Association championship for the first time in over two decades. His offense set single season records for rushing yardage and points scored. The Rhodes offense led the SAA with 36.7 ppg. while ranking second in rushing yards per game (217.4 ypg.) and third in total offense (410 ypg.).

During his time at Rhodes College, DeMaio's offense also provided record-breaking results with the performance of wide receiver Jack Lartigue setting school records in career receptions and yardage as well as receptions in a game. In 2013, quarterback Blake Box led the SAA with 22 passing touchdowns, and tight end Charles Schneider caught a conference-leading 10 touchdown passes.

Prior to his arrival at Rhodes, DeMaio served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Farleigh Dickinson University during the 2008-10 seasons. In his three seasons at FDU, his Devil offense set single season team records in total offense, passing yardage, pass attempts, pass completions and first downs. Additionally, under DeMaio's tutelage, FDU quarterback Bill Winters set career records for passing yardage, pass attempts, pass completions and completion percentage. He was an all-conference selection.

DeMaio began his coaching career at his alma mater, Robert Morris, where he worked for Walton, the former New York Jets head coach, coaching the quarterbacks. He would do that from 2004-06. DeMaio was a standout quarterback at the FCS institution, still holding records for most completions and most passing yards in a game (444). He also still holds the record for most passing yards at Duquesne's Art Rooney Field.

He then spent one season as the tight ends coach/special teams assistant at Middlebury College. In his one season at Middlebury, DeMaio was part of the first outright NESCAC championship in school history, finishing with a 7-1 record.

Nulph and DeMaio played together at Robert Morris, and then served together as graduate assistants for the Colonials under legendary head coach Joe Walton. They would reunite as members of the Westminster coaching staff from 2014 to 2017.
