Shanin Bennefield is the newest addition to the Edinboro football staff, joining the program this summer. He most recently served as an assistant coach at Albright, where he worked under head coach John Marzka, an Erie native and former standout at Allegheny College. Bennefield will serve as the wide receivers coach, while also serving as Director of Community Service/Community Engagement.

Bennefield was an assistant coach at Albright the last two years. He coached the wide receivers in 2018 after working with the running backs in 2017. In 2018, he helped coach wide receiver Kyle Dickerson to All-MAC first team honors in addition to D3football.com All-East Region third team honors, and All-ECAC second team honors. Dickerson finished with 1,068 yards receiving, the eighth-highest single season total. He helped lead the Lions to an 8-3 record in 2017, and a seventh straight year with a postseason berth.

Bennefield began his coaching career at South Charleston High School in 2015, where he primarily worked with outside linebackers and wide receivers. He also assisted in defensive preparation by breaking down film prior to game day.

Bennefield enjoyed an outstanding playing career at West Virginia State from 2011 to 2014. As a wide receiver, he finished his career with 105 receptions for 1,385 yards and six touchdowns. He was voted Offensive Player of the Year by his coaches and teammates in 2013 after finishing with 45 receptions for 589 yards and 2 TDs, and was a preseason All-MEC first team selection the following year.
 
Bennefield earned a bachelor's degree in Human Performance with a focus on Sports Studies from West Virginia State in December 2015.

A native of Newark, Del., he excelled at Newark High School, where he was a three-year varsity athlete as well as team captain in his senior season. Bennefield earned honorable mention all-conference accolades after finishing his junior year ranked third in the state in receptions and touchdowns.
