2013: Was off to a strong start, starting two of the first three games at Sam linebacker before going down with a season-ending knee injury … finished the year with 14 tackles, 11 of those solo, with 2.5 tackles for losses and a pair of sacks … recorded career-high 6 tackles against Bloomsburg … had 5 tackles against California(Pa.) with a sack and a forced fumble, and also registered a sack at Walsh. 

2012: Played in all 10 contests, appearing at both inside and outside linebacker … started two games at Will linebacker … also served as long snapper … finished with 22 tackles, with 1.5 tackles for losses … recorded first career interception against Slippery Rock in addition to finishing with 4 tackles … had career-high 5 tackles in the two games he started, against Mercyhurst and Clarion.

2011: Appeared in eight games before suffering a season-ending knee injury which required ACL surgery … totaled 16 tackles, including a season-high 4 tackles at Mercyhurst … added 3 tackles vs. Merrimack and Cheyney.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for head coach Tim Hall at Edison High School … was a standout at middle linebacker and halfback as a senior … finished with 135 tackles, 4 sacks, an interception, 2 fumbles and 2 passes broken up, along with carrying the ball 78 times for 714 yards with 9 TDs … added 6 pass receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown for 11 scores in all … earned Division IV All-Ohio second team honors at linebacker and was a unanimous first team All-Sandusky Bay Conference choice on defense and also earned Division IV Northwest District honors … played in 2011 SBC All-Star Game … finished with 157 tackles as a junior, with a sack and 5 passes broken up … a Special Mention District IV All-Ohio pick at linebacker and was a unanimous first team all-conference and all-district choice at linebacker … started all 10 games at middle linebacker as a sophomore and tallied 92 tackles and one sack … started final four games in 2007 at middle linebacker …set school records for most tackles for loss (30), tackles in a season (157) and tackles for a career (412) …also participated in track & field for three years.

PERSONAL: Born March 5, 1993 … Marketing major ... son of Lisa and Mark Matula and has two sisters (Mackenzie and Adriana) ... cousin, Megan Matula, played for the women’s soccer team at Western Michigan.
