Murphy has spent the last two years teaching in the Ashtabula Area City Schools where he has taught Biology and Physical Science. Last season, he served as the head coach for the Penn State Behrend men and women.
In his first season with the Scots, Murphy led the Fighting Scot women to the PSAC postseason for the first time since 2016. The Edinboro men reached the PSAC Championship match.
He coached two seasons with the Behrend women winning a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships and one NCAA Tournament appearance. He earned the AMCC Coach of the Year in 2025.
In the Spring of 2025, Murphy led the Behrend men to a conference championship and Atlantic East Championship while also earning his first Coach of the Year honor.
Murphy is a 2020 graduate of Edinboro where he competed on the men's tennis team.
