EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro University junior Eric Morrill (Sandown, NH/Timberlane) has been named the PSAC Wrestler of the Week for this past week. Edinboro faced third-ranked Ohio State with a patched-up lineup and suffered a 34-12 loss, but Morrill was a bright spot as he picked up a win at 125 lbs.
Morrill faced former national qualifier Nikko Triggas, also a junior, in the final match of the afternoon at Perrysburg(Oh.) High School. Morrill, ranked eighth by InterMat and ninth by Amateur Wrestling News, opened up a 4-1 lead early in the second period thanks to a first period takedown and a second period reversal. It was tied at 4-4 after a Triggas escape and takedown, but Morrill was able to finish on top again with a reversal late in the second. There was no scoring in the third period, with Morrill prevailing 6-4.
A national qualifier at 125 lbs. in 2008 who redshirted last year, Morrill improved to 13-2 with the victory. Edinboro returns to action on December 20 competing in the Reno Tournament.
