EDINBORO, Pa. (Jan. 15, 2011) – Mike Yurcich, who served as an assistant football coach at Edinboro for six seasons, has accepted a position as the Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach at Shippensburg. He will work on the staff of Mark “Mac” Maciejewski, who was appointed the Red Raiders' head coach in early December.
Yurcich spent the last five years as Edinboro's offensive coordinator and worked for six seasons as the quarterbacks coach. He helped develop the Fighting Scot offense into one of the top passing attacks in the country, and was the mentor for record-setting quarterback Trevor Harris.
“We obviously hate to see Mike leave our program,” related head coach Scott Browning. “He did an outstanding job for us. At the same time, as a young coach this move allows him to develop even more and to make more contacts. We wish Mike and his family the best.”
Under Yurcich's guidance Edinboro led the PSAC in passing in 2008 and 2009, with the 2009 edition ranking 17th in Division II at 278.5 ypg. Edinboro averaged at least 30 points per game from 2007-09. His 2008 offense led the PSAC in total offense (449.4 ypg.), which was 11th in Division II. The 2007 Fighting Scot edition ranked second in the PSAC in passing offense (259.5 ypg.) and fourth in scoring (35.7 ppg.), the latter figure the highest since 1994.
In addition to replacing its offensive coordinator in football, Yurcich's wife Julie served as the assistant women's track & field coach. The former Julie Nemergut was an All-American at Edinboro while competing in cross country and track & field.
