Volleyball Splits on Second Day of PSAC Crossover

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Edinboro played the full five sets in both matches today at the PSAC Crossover held at East Stroudsburg, beating Shippensburg, but dropping a close match to East Stroudsburg. 
 
Freshman phenom Marah Maycock had another big day for Edinboro (4-11, 1-2), finishing with 26 kills, 17 digs and seven blocks.  Sophomore Tabitha Meeks entered the day as the leader in total kills, and she finished with 22 total kills on the day to go along with her 22 digs.  Freshman Megan Branchick added 18 kills and seven blocks.
 
Maycock and Meeks had big days, but the story for the Fighting Scots was the great defensive effort put forth during both matches.  Edinboro finished with 13 blocks against East Stroudsburg, and 9.5 blocks against Shippensburg.  Haley Marett had 31 digs against Shippensburg, and 22 against East Stroudsburg, giving her 53 total on the day. 
 
Edinboro first took on East Stroudsburg (6-5, 3-1) at 10 a.m. this morning.  After dropping the first set 22-25, the Fighting Scots won the next two 25-23 and 25-23.  East Stroudsburg fought back, taking the fourth set 25-22 and then finished the match 15-11, giving them the 3-2 match victory. 
 
The Fighting Scots weren't down for long as they returned to face Shippensburg (10-5, 1-2) at 3 p.m.  Edinboro took the first set 25-19 before losing the second set 17-25.  They then regained advantage with a 25-23 victory, but dropped the fourth set 18-25, forcing a fifth set.  Edinboro battled back and forth with the Raiders, ultimately taking the fifth set in overtime 17-15. 
 
Edinboro has a few days of rest before taking on PSAC foes Indiana (Pa.) Friday night in McComb Fieldhouse starting at 7 p.m.  The Fighting Scots welcome California (Pa.) Saturday with a start time set for 3 p.m.
