Improving Spikers Host IUP, Cal(Pa.) This Weekend

EDINBORO, Pa. – It will be a big weekend of volleyball for a young but improving Edinboro volleyball squad.  The Fighting Scots host a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division foes, facing Indiana(Pa.) on Friday night at 7 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse, followed by a 3 p.m. meeting on Saturday with defending PSAC champion California(Pa.).

Edinboro boosted its record to 4-11 with a pair of PSAC crossover wins to open league action last weekend.  The Fighting Scots defeated Millersville and Shippensburg and lost in five sets to East Stroudsburg.

Sophomore Tabitha Meeks has enjoyed a very solid campaign.  The 5'8” outside hitter leads the Fighting Scots with 150 kills.  Freshman Marah Maycock, also a 5'8” outside hitter, adds 129 kills and has a team-high 154 digs.  Freshman Katie Felix and junior Erin Schatzle share the setting duties.  The 5'11” Felix has 242 assists along with 136 digs, while Schatzle, a transfer from Owens(MI) Community College, has 206 assists.  Another freshman, Maria Concheck, has a team-high 48 blocks.  She is a 5'10” middle hitter.

IUP will bring a record of 13-4 into Friday's match, and has a perfect 3-0 record in PSAC action.  The Crimson Hawks come off a 3-0 loss to nationally-ranked Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday.  California(Pa.) is 13-2 and 3-0 in the PSAC and has won eight straight matches since losing to Wayne State(MI) on September 8.  During that stretch they have dropped just one set.
