Edinboro Spikers Fall to Cal

EDINBORO, Pa. – After taking the first set 25-19, Edinboro dropped the next three, ultimately losing to California (Pa.) 3-1 in PSAC West action Saturday afternoon. 

Marah Maycock once again led the way offensively, notching 16 kills and three assists.  Tabitha Meeks added 11 kills and Megan Branchick tallied nine kills and three aces.  Katie Felix added five kills to go along with her team-leading 35 assists. Defensively, Edinboro was paced by libero Haley Marett, who had 16 digs.  Not far behind Marett was Maycock, who finished with 14 digs. 

Edinboro (5-11, 3-3) battled back and forth with the Vulcans (15-2, 5-0) in the first set, ultimately finishing with a victory 25-19.  The second set was once again a battle, but Cal pulled away in the end and won 25-22.  They rode that momentum to a fourth set victory 25-13 before putting the game away in the fifth set 25-19. 

Cal had solid performances put in by Kelly Fromknecht and Meghan Franz, who each finished with 13 kills.  Molly Delaney had 16 digs while Brandy Harris added 13 digs.  Fromknecht had 22 assists and Abbey Freund finished with 21, balancing the offensive output. 

Edinboro is off until Friday Oct. 5, when they host West Chester at 7 p.m. in the first game as the host of a PSAC Crossover.  Saturday Oct. 6, Edinboro faces visiting Cheyney at 12 p.m. and Kutztown at 3 p.m.
