EDINBORO, Pa.(Oct. 21, 2013) – The Edinboro volleyball team will host its final non-conference match on Tuesday, October 22 when the Fighting Scots face Point Park. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse. Edinboro comes in with a 14-12 overall record, while Point Park has an 18-13 ledger.
The non-conference match is likely just what the Fighting Scots need after dropping seven of their last nine contests. Coach
Missy Soboleski's team took part in its final PSAC Crossover this past weekend. After falling in four games to Millersville and in three to Lock Haven on Friday, they suffered a five-set loss to Shippensburg on Saturday. They would end the weekend on a positive note with a four-game win over Pitt-Johnstown.
That leaves the young Fighting Scots with a 6-7 record in PSAC action. They must make up three games in the standings on Gannon to claim the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Division.
Marah Maycock, a 5'8" outside hitter, leads the Fighting Scots with 257 kills, and stands third on the team in digs with 260.
Megan Branchick, a 6'2" middle hitter, adds 239 kills and 51 blocks, while 5'8" outside hitter
Tabitha Meeks has contributed 235 kills and 319 digs, the latter figure second on the team.
Haley Marett, a 5'4" libero, has a team-high 537 digs, while 5'11" setter
Katie Felix has 798 assists.
This will mark the third match against PSAC competition for Point Park. The NAIA Pioneers lost to California(Pa.) in four sets and defeated Slippery Rock in five games. Coach Mike Bruno's team has five players with 100-or-more kills, led by Nicole Wurstle. The 6'1" rightside hitter has 288 kills along with 64 blocks. Sophomore Cara Bradley serves as the setter and has 925 assists, while libero Olivia Fisher has 502 digs. Nikki Inquartano, a 6'1" freshman, and Cristiane Chaves, a 6'3" sophomore, have been forces at the net with 92 and 81 blocks, respectively.
Following the Point Park match, Edinboro wraps up the 2013 campaign with nine straight matches against PSAC West foes before the start of the PSAC Tournament. That stretch gets underway on Saturday, October 25 with the Fighting Scots playing at Indiana(Pa.).
