EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 7, 2013) – After finally playing a pair of home contests following a month of road matches, the Edinboro volleyball team hits the highway once again, traveling to Slippery Rock for a PSAC West match on Tuesday, October 7. The match gets underway at Morrow Field House at 7 p.m. Edinboro then returns home for three straight matches at McComb Fieldhouse.
Edinboro saw its five-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday, falling to Mercyhurst in four games. The night before the Fighting Scots had rallied from a 2-1 deficit to come back and beat Gannon in the home opener. That leaves the Fighting Scots of coach
Missy Soboleski with an overall record of 12-6, along with 5-1 in conference action. Edinboro is one game behind Western Division leader California(Pa.), with the two set to meet on Friday, October 11.
Megan Branchick leads the Fighting Scots in kills with 171, with
Marah Maycock and
Tabitha Meeks next with 153 apiece. Branchick also has 35 total blocks.
Maria Concheck is the team leader with 55 total blocks.
Katie Felix has emerged as the team's setter and shows 527 assists, also leading the Scots with 28 service aces.
Haley Marett has 368 digs, good for third in the PSAC and 11th in Division in digs per set, with Meeks adding 245.
Slippery Rock comes in with an 8-11 overall record and is 3-3 in the PSAC West. The Rock dropped four-game matches to Mercyhurst and Gannon over the weekend to snap a three-match winning streak. Under long-time head coach Laurie Lokash, now in her 30th year and with 564 wins, SRU is paced by Caroline Houston's 210 kills. Kristy Lake adds 166 kills, while Michelle Hren has 116 kills along with a team-high 71 blocks. Setter Janna Reilly has 409 assists.
Edinboro and Slippery Rock split last year's matches, each winning at home in four games.
