Fighting Scots Sink Shippensburg on Senior Day

EDINBORO, Pa (January 11, 2014) – The Edinboro women's swimming team defeated Shippensburg Saturday afternoon 139-117 on Senior Day. The Fighting Scots improved to 6-0 in their final home meet of the season while Shippensburg fell to 3-3.

Jessica Abbott, Alexis Berdine, Katie Kelly, Julia Lockmyer, Julie Moretti, Maria Tarbell, and Sarah Weeks were all honored before the meet.

The Fighting Scots won nine events on the day. The quartet of Berdine, Holly Stein, Goezde Tekin, and Moretti won the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:50.46 for the Scots first victory of the day.

Mary Rosati, Stein, and Berdine would each win two other events. Rosati won the 1000 yard freestyle (11:00.36) and 500 yard freestyle (5:24.79). Stein added victories in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.57) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:28.20) while Berdine won the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.18) and 200 yard backstroke (2:12.89).

Staci Schrecongost added a win in the 200 yard freestyle (1:57.71). Tekin won the 200 yard butterfly (2:13.51) and finished second in the 200 yard backstroke (2:14.35).

Tarbell and Moretti also tallied additional second place finishes, as Tarbell finished the 200 yard butterfly in 2:17.75 while Moretti completed the 100 yard freestyle in 54.53.

Edinboro will travel to Tiffin, Ohio next weekend and will be competing against Tiffin and Malone on Friday, January 17. The meet gets underway at 1 p.m.
