Edinboro Moves to 8-0 With Convincing Wins Over Tiffin, Malone

TIFFIN, Oh. (January 17, 2014) – The Fighting Scots women's swimming team remained undefeated after capturing two dominant victories, defeating Tiffin 99-29 and Malone 96-24 on Friday at Tiffin. Edinboro improves to 8-0 on the season with the wins. Malone picked up a win over Tiffin by a score of 80-37 to move to 1-6 on the year. Tiffin dropped to 2-7 with the losses.

Alexis Berdine, Goezde Tekin and Mary Rosati paced Edinboro with two first-place finishes each.

Berdine captured top times in the 50 yard freestlye (25.45) and 100 yard freestyle (56.59).

Tekin finished first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:01.87) and 100 yard butterfly (59.89).

Rosati claimed titles in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.14) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:19.83).

Other Fighting Scots to earn first-place finishes included Staci Schrecongost in the 1000 yard freestlye (11:12.90), Mackenzie Wargo in the 200 yard butterfly (2:38.77) and Maria Tarbell in the 500 yard freestyle (5:35.24).

PSAC Women's Swimmer of the Week Holly Stein also captured a victory in the 200 yard IM with a mark of 2:18.71.

The relay foursome consisting of Berdine, Stein, Tekin and Katie Kelly led off the meet with a top time of 1:50.38 in the 200 yard medley relay.

The quartet of Julia Moretti, Breanna Purnell, Kelly and Schrecongost rounded out the first-place finishes for the Scots on the day in the 200 yard freestyle with a mark of 1:43.20.

Edinboro returns to action on January 25, when the Fighting Scots travel to Clarion in the final dual meet of the season. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. against the Eagles.
