EDINBORO, Pa. (October 13, 2014) - The Edinboro women's soccer team look to extend its school record seven-game winning streak on Tuesday evening when Roberts Wesleyan comes to Sox Harrison Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. between the two non-conference foes. The Fighting Scots enter the match at 7-4-1 Redhawks, members of the East Coast Conference (ECC), are 6-6-0 overall.
Edinboro defeated Lock Haven 4-1 in its last outing on Saturday. The victory tied the school record for consecutive wins originally set by the 2007 team.
Jansen Hartmann opened the scoring for the Scots in the fifth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. Lock Haven tied the game at 1-1 seven minutes into the second half but the final ten minutes belonged to Edinboro.
Ashley DeVito broke the tie in the 80
th minute and Hartmann followed shortly after with another goal to extend the lead to 3-1.
Becca Costello put the nail in the coffin in the 87
th minute with an assist from
Liz Debo.
Hartmann has put together an impressive streak of her own during the Fighting Scots winning streak. The junior midfielder/forward has registered at least one point in six straight games and has five goals and three assists for 13 points over that span. All of those marks lead Edinboro.
Debo has put up big numbers as of late as well. Last week the senior forward scored two goals against Bloomsburg to lead the team to a 2-1 double overtime victory and contributed an assist against Lock Haven. The North Huntingdon, Pa. native is now just one goal away from tying assistant coach
Jamie Sallie (formerly Jamie Tekotte) for first place in school history for career goals (37). Debo also trails Nicole Vlahovic by ten points for the school record for career points (90).
Bella Mitrevski has paced the Redhawks this season. The sophomore midfielder has seven goals and four assists for 18 points. The goals and points are each tied for third-best in the East Coast Conference. Last season Mitrevski tied for the team lead in points (23) and earned second team All-ECC honors, first team NCCAA East Region, and was named to the NSCAA/NCCAA Division II All-American honorable mention list.
Ellie Swan is second for Roberts Wesleyan in goals (five) and points (11). The junior forward has already tied her career-high for goals and is three points away from tying her career-high for points.
The Redhawks have played two other Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams this season and won both games 1-0 against Gannon and Lock Haven.
Edinboro won the only match between these two teams 3-0 at Sox Harrison Stadium in 2012. Karisa Fernandez scored twice while Debo also tallied a goal and Hartmann contributed two assists.
The Fighting Scots will return to PSAC play after this game with a match on Saturday, October 18 against Mansfield. The contest is set to kick-off at 3:00 p.m. with Senior Day activities prior to the game.
