Fighting Scots Defeat Golden Eagles 2-0 to Extend Winning Streak to Four Games

CLARION, Pa. (October 3, 2014) - The Edinboro women's soccer team continued its winning streak Friday afternoon with a 2-0 victory at Clarion. The Fighting Scots have now won four in a row. Jansen Hartmann and Ashley DeVito each scored their second goals of the season to lead the Scots to victory. Edinboro is now 4-4-1 overall and in the PSAC and the Golden Eagles fell to 2-6-1 overall and in conference.

DeVito found the back of the net early. The senior midfielder/defender scored in the seventh minute off a corner set piece. Grace Kereky and Alex Brown were credited with assists on the goal, the first of each sophomore's career.

The Fighting Scots continued to fire shots on net and scored the insurance goal on their last shot of the game. Hartmann's goal came in the 79th minute. Edinboro ultimately outshot Clarion 20-5 in the contest.

Hartmann became just the 20th player in school history to record 10 career goals. The junior forward/midfielder is now at 30 career points, 18th all-time for the Scots.

Meghan Kelly became the first goaltender in school history to record 20 shutouts and the 12th player in conference history to achieve that mark. The senior had four saves in the game.

Edinboro now will look to defend its winning streak at No. 24 Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. The Crimson Hawks defeated Mansfield 4-0 earlier today to move into first place in the PSAC. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
