CLARION, Pa. – The Edinboro women's volleyball team closed its regular season schedule dropping a 3-1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18) decision at the hands of first-place Clarion in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Tippin Gymnasium in Clarion, Pa. The Fighting Scots moved to 21-12 overall and 21-12 in PSAC play, while the Golden Eagles head into the PSAC Championship Tournament as the top seed with a 29-3 overall mark and 20-2 record in the conference.
Although Edinboro has been eliminated from PSAC Championship contention, the Fighting Scots will wait to learn their fate for an NCAA Atlantic Regional at-large berth. Edinboro sits seventh in the latest NCAA Atlantic Regional Rankings released on Wednesday, November 5.
The NCAA regional rankings determine the participants for the NCAA Tournament at the conclusion of the conference championship tournaments. In the Atlantic region, the PSAC and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association champions receive an automatic bid to the NCAA regional, with the six highest-ranked remaining teams receiving at-large bids.
After Clarion earned a 25-13 triumph in the first game, the Golden Eagles scored a pair of points on a kill and a Fighting Scot attack error to take a 22-21 lead in the second set. Edinboro would answer with four consecutive points of its own, including two kills from
Breanna Gardner to capture a 25-22 set victory and even the match at 1-1.
However, Clarion responded with wins of 25-21 and 25-18 in the third and fourth games to pick up the 3-1 PSAC triumph.
Challen Litwiler paced the Fighting Scots' attack with nine kills to go along with eight digs.
Sydney Trathen recorded a team-high 22 assists, while
Marah Maycock led Edinboro with 12 digs in the game, followed by
Haley Marett with 10 digs.
Tabitha Meeks added eight kills for the Fighting Scots, while
Katie Felix contributed 13 assists.
Maria Concheck posted four block solos and a block assist.
Taylor Braunagel and Laura Subject tallied game-highs of 16 kills and 46 assists, respectively for the Golden Eagles.
The NCAA Regional field will be announced at the conclusion of the PSAC and other conference championship tournaments.
