SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (December 20, 2014) – In a game which featured 18 lead changes and nine ties, the Edinboro men's basketball team fell by a score of 57-53 to host Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon in a PSAC Crossover contest at Heiges Field House in Shippensburg, Pa. The Fighting Scots moved to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in PSAC play, while the Raiders boosted their record to 6-4 on the season and 2-4 in the conference
With 11 seconds remaining in the game, Henri Wade-Chatman knocked down a pair of free throws to knot the game at 53-53.
On the next Shippensburg possession, Tommy Scales committed a foul on Dylan Edgar, sending him to the free throw line. Edgar, a 6'10'' center who was 0 for 3 from the charity stripe up to that point, made both free throws to give the Raiders a 55-53 lead with four seconds to play.
With a chance to win or tie the contest, Jaymon Mason was called for an offensive foul with two seconds to play, turning the ball back over to Shippensburg.
After an Edinboro foul, Abe Massaley dropped in a pair of free throws to seal the 57-53 victory for the Raiders.
Tommy ScalesWade-Chatman was the only Fighting Scot to score in double-figures, leading Edinboro with 12 points. Tommy Scales tallied eight points and pulled down a team-high nine boards.
Edgar posted game-highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Raiders, sinking 9 of 13 field goals in the contest. Massaley added 19 points for Shippensburg.
The Raiders outshot Edinboro for the game, as Shippensburg shot 41.5 percent (22 of 53) and the Fighting Scots connected on 37.9 percent (22 of 58) of field goals on the day.
Edinboro was 35.7 percent (5 of 14) from behind the arc, while the Raiders made just 18.8 percent (3 of 16) of shots from long range.
The Fighting Scots, who attempted only eight free throws in the game, shot 50.0 percent (4 of 8) from the charity stripe. Shippensburg shot 66.7 percent (10 of 15) from the free throw line in the victory.
The Raiders outscored Edinboro 34-18 in the paint, but the Fighting Scots held a 38-33 advantage in rebounding.
Trailing 29-27 at the half, Edinboro used a 12-4 run fueled by a pair of 3-pointers by Chibunna Ukandu and Mason to take its largest lead of the game of six points at 39-33 with 16:05 to play in the contest. Shippensburg responded with a 9-2 run capped by a Dustin Sleva layup to regain a 42-41 advantage at the 10:50 mark of the second half.
The two teams traded the lead in the seesaw battle for the remainder of the game.
The Fighting Scots have 10 days off before their next contest, hosting Thiel on Tuesday, December 30. The contest, which is Edinboro's final non-conference game of the 2014-15 campaign, is set to begin at 7 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse.
