Fighting Scots Top West Liberty and Notre Dame (OH), Finish PSAC/MEC Crossover 4-0

(September 13, 2014) – The Edinboro volleyball team earned a pair of non-conference victories with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-18) win over West Liberty and a 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-16) triumph against Notre Dame (OH) on day two of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Crossover on Saturday afternoon. The event was hosted by Gannon University.

The Fighting Scots boosted their record to 6-2 with the wins, while West Liberty fell to 1-6 and Notre Dame (OH) dropped to 2-6. Edinboro closed the PSAC/MEC Crossover with a perfect 4-0 record after posting wins over Charleston (WV) and West Virginia State on Friday. Edinboro outscored its opponents 12-1 at the event.

The Fighting Scots topped West Liberty 40-18 in total kills en route to the 3-0 sweep of the Hilltoppers.

Jen Gruber paced the Edinboro attack with nine kills and Maria Concheck contributed eight kills in the match.

Haley Marett led four Fighting Scots with double-figure digs with 18 digs. Sydney Trathen added 14 digs, while Challen Litwiler and Tabitha Meeks posted 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Trathen also recorded a team-high 21 assists.

After suffering their first set loss of the weekend 25-20 to Notre Dame (OH), the Fighting Scots rattled off three consecutive set wins by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-16 to collect their fourth straight win.

Gruber once again led the Fighting Scots' attack with 14 kills, followed by Litwiler, who set a career-high with 12 kills. Marah Maycock added nine kills to go along with 12 digs in the match.

Marett recorded a team-high 19 digs, while Sydney Trathen dished out 35 assists to lead Edinboro. Katie Felix tallied 17 assists and 10 digs in the win.

Lindsay Shirilla had a team-high 11 kills and Alexia Koerkenmeir added 10 kills for the Falcons.

Edinboro's 61 total kills against Notre Dame (OH) represented the highest mark of the season for the Fighting Scots, and is the team's highest total since tallying 61 kills in a 3-2 loss to Seton Hill on October 12, 2013.

Edinboro will take on Notre Dame (OH) again this Tuesday, September 16 in the Fighting Scots' home opener in a rematch of Saturday's contest. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse.
