(September 16, 2014) – The Edinboro volleyball team opened the home portion of its 2014 schedule with a 3-1 (25-11, 25-17, 19-25, 25-19) non-conference victory over Notre Dame (Ohio) on Tuesday night at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots matched their longest winning streak of last season of five games and improved to 7-2 with the win, while the Falcons dropped to 2-7.
Tuesday's contest was a rematch of last Saturday's battle between the two teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Crossover at Gannon. Edinboro produced an identical 3-1 victory in that match, as well. The Fighting Scots move to 8-0 all-time against the Falcons.
Edinboro opened the match with 25-11 and 25-17 triumphs to take a 2-0 lead, before Notre Dame answered with a 25-19 set victory to cut the Fighting Scot lead to 2-1. Edinboro answered with a 25-19 win in the fourth set to earn the 3-1 non-conference victory.
Marah Maycock paced the Fighting Scots with 14 kills to go along with 15 digs, the ladder figure matching a season-high.
Haley Marett led Edinboro with 24 digs while
Sydney Trathen dished out a team-high 24 assists, followed by
Katie Felix with 18 assists. Trathen also added 11 digs on the night.
Lindsay Shirilla led the Falcons with 12 kills, while Shelby Regiec recorded 15 assists and Tawnia Almaraz tallied 13 digs.
The Fighting Scots return to action in a PSAC Crossover weekend this Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20 at West Chester and Cheyney. Edinboro takes on West Chester at 11:30 and East Stroudsburg at 5 p.m. on Friday in West Chester, Pa., before facing Cheyney at 10 a.m. and Kutztown at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in Cheyney, Pa.
