EDINBORO, Pa. (January 7, 2015) – The Edinboro men's basketball team used a 14-0 run in the second half and
Henri Wade-Chatman netted a career-high 32 points to lift the Fighting Scots to a 90-63 victory over visiting Lock Haven in a PSAC Crossover contest on Wednesday night at McComb Fieldhouse. Edinboro snapped a two-game skid and improved to 7-7on the season and 4-6 in PSAC play, while the Bald Eagles dropped to 3-10 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
Lock Haven's Nate Walters knocked down a pair of free throws with 7:05 to play in the contest to cut the Fighting Scots' lead to single-digits for the first time in nearly 16 minutes of action at 62-53.
Edinboro would respond with a 14-0 run keyed by five points each from Wade-Chatman and
Casey Baker to give the Fighting Scots a 74-53 lead with 4:54 to play.
Jaymon Mason tallied 15 points for Edinboro.Jaymon Mason ignited the run with a jumper, before Baker dropped in a pair of layups and completed an old-fashioned 3-point play on the ladder make.
Wade-Chatman then rattled off five straight points for Edinboro, including a 3-pointer and a steal converted into a layup on the other end.
Tommy Scales capped the run with a jumper off an assist from Wade-Chatman.
The Fighting Scots pushed their lead to as many as 29 points with 1:16 to play after a Baker layup.
Edinboro closed the game on a 28-10 run en route to the PSAC triumph.
Wade-Chatman led four Fighting Scots in double-figures in the win, connecting on 12 of 21 field goals, including 4 of 6 makes from behind the arc. The Pittsburgh native was a perfect 4 of 4 from the free throw line, while posting season-highs of eight rebounds and six assists, as well.
Baker and Mason each tallied 15 points for Edinboro and were a combined 14 of 21 (66.7 percent) from the field.
Baker, who neared a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds, was 7 of 11 from the field, while Mason drained 7 of 10 field goals. The redshirt freshman also matched a team-high with six assists without committing a single turnover.
Will Marrow, who was faced with the daunting task of guarding PSAC leading scorer Wali Hepburn, responded to the challenge and held the returning All-American and reigning PSAC Eastern Division player of the Year to 3 of 16 shooting for the game.
Hepburn finished with a team-high 15 points, due in large part to a 9 of 10 showing from the free throw line.
Marrow also contributed on the offensive end, matching a career-high with 12 points for Edinboro to go along with six rebounds.
Scales grabbed eight rebounds and posted three blocked shots off the bench.
Walters notched a double-double for Lock Haven with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Casey Baker had 15 points and nine boards. The Fighting Scots shot 49.3 percent (36 of 37) from the field for the game, including 58.1 percent (18 of 31) in the second half. The Bald Eagles were held to 29.7 percent (19 of 64) shooting in the game, the lowest field goal percentage allowed by Edinboro since Penn State Greater Allegheny shot 22.9 percent (16 of 70) in the season opener.
The Fighting Scots made 54.4 percent (6 of 11) of shots from behind the arc, while Lock Haven shot 35.0 percent (7 of 20) from long range.
Edinboro was 60.0 percent (12 of 20) from the charity stripe, compared to the Bald Eagles shooting 75.0 percent (18 of 24) at the free throw line.
The Fighting Scots outscored Lock Haven 42-20 in the paint and 20-5 on fast break points.
In the first half, a Walters layup cut Edinboro's lead to 28-24 with 4:14 to play in the opening period.
The Fighting Scots would answer with a 17-5 run to close the half fueled by six points from Marrow to take a 45-29 lead into the break.
Edinboro returns to PSAC Western Division action on Saturday, traveling to nearby Erie, Pa. to take on local rival Gannon. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Hammermill Center. The Golden Knights sit atop the PSAC West standings with a 9-1 mark in conference play following a 76-51 win over Kutztown Wednesday night.
