Fighting Scots Look to Keep Hot Start Rolling in PSAC Crossover

EDINBORO, Pa. (October 14, 2015) - The Edinboro University volleyball team enters this weekend's PSAC Crossover in sole possession of first place in the PSAC West after defeating local rivals Gannon and Mercyhurst this past Homecoming weekend. With the victories, the Fighting Scots improved to 19-2 overall and 8-1 in the PSAC. The 19-2 start is the best start since the 1994 squad began the season at 20-2.
 
In the first leg of the PSAC Crossover, the Fighting Scots travel to Kutztown on Friday, October 16 to take on Cheyney at 2 p.m. and host Kutztown at 7:30 p.m. Cheyney enters the contest losers of its last 11 matches and just 1-15 overall on the year, with an 0-9 mark in PSAC East play. Kutztown comes in winning just two of its last 12 matches and has a 4-15 overall record with a 2-7 record in the PSAC East.
 
On day two of the PSAC Crossover, the Fighting Scots head to East Stroudsburg on Saturday, October 17 to match up with West Chester at 12:30 p.m. and host East Stroudsburg at 6 p.m. West Chester enters the weekend riding a six-match winning streak and has a 17-4 overall record on the year, with a 5-4 mark in PSAC East play. East Stroudsburg comes in winners of just one match in its last ten played. The Warriors sit at 6-13 overall and 1-8 in the PSAC East.
 
The Edinboro squad is led offensively by sophomore outside hitter Challen Litwiler with 302 kills. Junior Victoria Severo ranks second on the team with 199 kills, while also posting a team-high .360 hitting percentage. Senior Latoya Hutchinson has tallied 140 kills, good for third on the team. Sophomore Sydney Trathen moved into ninth place in the school record books on the all-time assist leaders with 1,617 this past weekend. Trathen has totaled 778 assists this season. 
 
The Fighting Scots defense is led by senior Marah Maycock with 309 digs. Litwiler ranks second on the team with 258. Severo leads the squad with 59 total blocks, while Hutchinson has a team-high 13 block solos. Trathen ranks second with 10 block solos. Freshman Megan Screptock ranks fourth on the squad in kills (132) and third in digs (187).
