MANSFIELD, Pa. (October 31, 2015) - The Edinboro University women's soccer team treated themselves to some goodies on Halloween, running their winning streak to three games with a 2-1 victory at Mansfield. The win earned the Fighting Scots the fourth seed in the PSAC Tournament. They will host fifth-seed Kutztown on Tuesday, November 3.
Edinboro finished the regular season at 12-6-0 overall and 11-5-0 in PSAC play. Mansfield ended its season with a 4-12-1 overall record and a 3-12-1 PSAC record.
This marks the fourth time in five years that Edinboro has finished with at least twelve regular season wins. Gannon, West Chester, and Slippery Rock have clinched the first, second, and third seeds, respectively, for the conference tournament. East Stroudsburg has clinched a tournament spot, as well. The remaining two spots will be determined in matches later tonight. Bloomsburg, Shippensburg, California (Pa.), and Indiana (Pa) are vying for those spots.
The match was scoreless until senior midfielder
Jansen Hartmann opened the scoring for Edinboro with a 60th minute goal, assisted by
Alex Brown, for a 1-0 advantage. Freshman midfielder
Halle Hammer added a second goal to the Fighting Scots' total for her eighth goal of the year in the 77th minute, nailing a shot from 10 yards out off a pass from
Coleen Brodman.
Delaney Meadows got Mansfield on the board on a breakaway goal in the 82nd minute to trim Edinboro's lead to one. Thanks to great defense and a five-save performance by goalkeeper
Sarah Baskey, the Scots held on to defeat the Mountaineers. Baskey improved her record to 10-4-0.
Hartmann's goal brought her team-leading season scoring totals to 28 points on eleven goals and six assists. She is eighth all-time at Edinboro in career points (70), eighth in career goals (25), and third in career assists (20). Hammer's goal tied her with
Ashley Mutkus for second in team scoring with 17 points.
The Fighting Scots will host Kutztown in the first round of the PSAC tournament on Tuesday, November 3 at Sox Harrison Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Edinboro defeated the Golden Bears earlier this season, 4-1.
