EDINBORO, Pa. (October 5, 2015) - Fresh off an undefeated three-game homestand, the PSAC West-leading Edinboro University volleyball team will take to the road on Tuesday, October 6 for a quick one game road trip against PSAC foe Slippery Rock. The Fighting Scots come into the contest with an impressive 16-2 overall record and a 5-1 mark in PSAC play. Slippery Rock enters with an 8-11 overall record and a 1-5 mark in PSAC play. After starting the season winning six straight matches, Slippery Rock has just one win in its last ten contests.
The Fighting Scots enter Tuesday's game boasting several players at the top of the PSAC leaderboards. Sophomore
Challen Litwiler ranks first in the PSAC with 271 kills and 36 service aces. Fellow sophomore
Sydney Trathen also leads the PSAC with 669 assists and junior
Victoria Severo ranks third in hitting percentage with .355 for the year. Severo also ranks eighth in the PSAC and second on the team in kills (161).
As a unit, the Fighting Scots rank first in the PSAC in both kills (891) and assists (812), while also ranking second in hitting percentage (.236).
Trathen enters the game needing just 34 assists to move into ninth all-time in school history for career assists. The sophomore currently has 1,508 in her two-year Edinboro career.
The Fighting Scots are also getting solid contributions from seniors
Latoya Hutchinson and
Marah Maycock, as well as freshman
Megan Screptock. Hutchinson ranks fourth on the team in kills (107) and second in total blocks (36). Maycock has led the Fighting Scots defense all year, recording a team-high 262 digs. Screptock is third on the squad in both kills (111) and digs (161).
After the quick road trip, the Fighting Scots return to Edinboro for some homecoming PSAC action this weekend. On Friday, October 9 at 7 p.m. the Fighting Scots host Gannon. On Saturday, October 10 at 7 p.m. the Fighting Scots take on visiting Mercyhurst. The homecoming games will take place in McComb Fieldhouse.
