CALIFORNIA, Pa. (March 30, 2015) - The Edinboro softball team dropped both games a doubleheader at No. 22 California (Pa.) this afternoon losing 9-0 (six innings) and 11-2 (five innings). The Fighting Scots are now 8-6 this season and 0-4 in the PSAC West. The Vulcans, who have now won 23 games in a row against Edinboro, are 11-5 this season and 5-1 in conference.

GAME ONE - California (Pa.) 9, Edinboro 0 (6)The Fighting Scots were unable to challenge the defending PSAC West Pitcher of the Year Alex Sagl in the first game. Edinboro had one baserunner - a hit in the fifth inning by
Haley Struebing - and lost 9-0.
Cal got on the board in the first inning of the first game. The Vulcans scored three runs, all with two outs in the inning. Lindsay Reicoff hit a double to centerfield to score the first run. Then Shelby Heyd stepped to the plate with two runners in scoring position and smacked a double to left center to score two more runs and give Cal a 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
The Vulcans tacked on two more two out runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. Jacquelyn Fowler drove in Kaity Finley with a double in the fourth while Heyd hit a home run to left centerfield to increase the California (Pa.) lead to 5-0.
The game would come to an end in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Reicoff hit a grand slam to end the game at 9-0 due to the eight run mercy rule.
Kalet Lenart saw her record fall to 1-2 with the loss as she pitched 5.2 innings allowing the nine runs, eight earned. The sophomore allowed nine hits, walked one, and struckout three.
Sagl improved to 4-2 this season and struckout eight on her way to a one-hitter.
Reicoff finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs and five RBI. Heyd concluded the opening contest 2-for-3 at the dish with one run and three RBI.

GAME TWO - California (Pa.) 11, Edinboro 2 (5)Â
Callaghan delivered an RBI with the
bases loaded in the third inning.The Fighting Scots led early in the game but could not hold on for the victory as the Vulcans hit five home runs.
Edinboro threatened to start the game with a leadoff single by
Kylie Mason. The junior shortstop moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt from
Laura Crooks and advanced to third base when Struebing struck out. Mason would be stranded at the corner though when
Theresa Fleckenstein struck out swinging to end the top of the first inning.
California (Pa.) left a runner in scoring position as well in the bottom half of the opening frame. Fowler doubled down the left field line with one out but was left on base after Scots pitcher
Abby Sotter forced two groundouts.
Sotter ran into trouble in the bottom of the second inning but minimized the damage. The Vulcans loaded the bases with only one out. Sotter then struck out Finley for the second out but walked Fowler on four pitches to bring in a run. Emily Price swung at the first base she saw and grounded out to second base. Cal led 1-0 after two innings.
Courtney Korpus tied the game up nearly immediately. Leading off in the bottom of the third inning she laced her first career home run to center field to tie the game at 1-1. The Fighting Scots then loaded the bases as Mason reached on an error, Crooks walked, and Fleckenstein reached on a fielder's choice. The Vulcans pulled Meghan Uher at this point and brought Sagl back into the action after her dominant first game performance to face
Brooke Callaghan. The Scots third baseman would come up clutch on a 1-2 pitch and single up the middle to score Mason. Crooks was tagged out at home plate attempting to score. Edinboro led 2-1.
The Vulcans would not trail for long. Reicoff walked to lead off the bottom of the third inning and Heyd followed by reaching on a throwing error. Sotter struckout the next batter she faced but then Becca Reinhart hit a two RBI double to right centerfield scoring Reicoff and Heyd. Sotter retired the next two batters in order as Edinboro trailed 3-2 entering the fourth inning.
Cal then tacked on three runs by way of back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fourth frame. Price homered with Fowler before Reicoff delivered a shot down the left field line. The Vulcans led 6-2 at this point.
The game ended in the bottom of the fifth inning after a trio of home runs. Reinhart led off the inning with a solo shot against Sotter before she was pulled for
Taylor Payne. Fowler then knocked one out of the park with Finley on base to increase the lead to 9-2.
Samantha Weaver then came on in relief and conceded a single to Price and home run to Reicoff to end the game at 11-2.
Korpus finished with her first multi-hit game since March 17, 2014 at Coker. The senior outfielder batted 2-for-2 with the one run and one RBI off of her home run.
Callaghan and Mason each went 1-for-2 in the second game with the former picking up an RBI and the latter a run and hit by pitch.
Sotter was credited with the loss and fell to 1-1 on the season. She pitched four frames giving up seven runs, six hits, and four walks while striking out three.
Sagl picked up her second victory of the day and moved to 5-2 this year. She threw 2.1 innings and allowed no runs and two hits. Sagl added three strikeouts.
Two through four in the Vulcans line-up did the most damage as Fowler, Price, and Reicoff combined to bat 7-for-9, scoring seven runs, four home runs, and eight RBI in the finale. Reinhart added the other three RBI.
NEXT UP - Tuesday, March 31 at Pitt-Johnstown (DH)The Fighting Scots will be back on the field tomorrow for another road contest. They travel to Pitt-Johnstown for a doubleheader with the Lady Cats. UPJ entered today's game with Seton Hill 3-9 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC West.
