Fighting Scots Drop PSAC Contest at Indiana (Pa.) 12-9

INDIANA, Pa. (March 31, 2015) – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team fell by a score of 12-9 to host Indiana (Pa.) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match on Tuesday evening at George P. Miller Stadium in Indiana, Pa. The Fighting Scots moved to 6-2 on the season and 3-2 in PSAC play with the loss, while the Crimson Hawks improved to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
 
IUP scored two straight goals to gain a 12-5 advantage with just over 16 minutes remaining in the match, before the Fighting Scots found the back of the net four times to close the contest. Unfortunately, the Edinboro rally fell short as the Fighting Scots' last score came with just four seconds to play in the game.
 
Emily Peters scored first to cut the Crimson Hawks' lead to 12-7 with 12:41 remaining, followed by a goal by Alexa Healy at the 5:37 mark of the second half and a Kasey Thur score with 1:24 showing on the clock to shrink the IUP advantage to 12-8. Rebecca Martin dished out an assist on all three scores.
 
Anna Purdy would score the final goal of the contest with four seconds remaining.
 
Purdy paced the Fighting Scots with three goals, while Cydney Hrycko and Thur added two goals apiece. Martin recorded a team-high four assists for Edinboro.
 
Kim Hooven led all players with four scores for the Crimson Hawks. Amy Weinberg dished out a game-high five assists to go along with two goals for IUP.
 
The Fighting Scots jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first half on goals by Purdy and Hrycko, before the Crimson Hawks scored four unanswered goals to gain a 4-2 advantage with 15:40 to play in the opening period.
 
Another goal by Purdy would shrink the deficit to 4-3, but IUP scored six of the next seven goals to take a 10-4 lead with 1:41 remaining in the first half. Thur found the back of the net for Edinboro to minimize the Crimson Hawks' lead to 10-5 heading into the locker room.
 
The Fighting Scots outscored IUP 4-2 in the second half, after the two teams combined for 15 goals in the opening frame.
 
Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, April 4, making the short trek to Erie, Pa. to take on No. 8 Mercyhurst at 11 a.m.
