EDINBORO, Pa. (April 17, 2015) - The Edinboro softball team struggled to score on Friday afternoon at home totaling three runs across two losing efforts against Seton Hill. The Griffins defeated the Fighting Scots 13-3 in five innings of the first game and 1-0 in the second game. Edinboro's record now stands at 15-10-1 overall and 7-8-1 in the PSAC while Seton Hill is 23-8-1 and 15-6-1 in conference.

Brooke Callaghan hit a solo home run in the first game.A few Edinboro players provided silver linings to the afternoon.
Haley Struebing was the only Fighting Scots to register a hit in each game and her home run in the first game was the 14
th of her career moving her into sole possession of fourth place in school history. The junior first baseman also moved into a tie with Jade Thrower for 11
th in career RBI (49).
Brooke Callaghan also hit a home run, becoming just the ninth Fighting Scot to reach 10 career home runs. Finally,
Kalet Lenart pitched a sensational game in the finale, striking out six while allowing only four hits and one unearned run.
GAME ONE - Seton Hill 13, Edinboro 3 (Five Innings)The Fighting Scots fell behind early in the opener. The Griffins scored four runs in the first inning including a three-run home run by Kaitlyn Kutchman. They tacked on one more run in the second inning to establish a 5-0 lead.
Seton Hill then scored seven runs in the next two innings combined. The Griffins loaded the bases in the third inning and scored four straight runs off two walks and two hit by pitches. Carlee Wickstrom then scored on a wild pitch to cap off the third frame and take a 10-0 lead. They then loaded the bases again in the fourth inning and scored after Delaney Cortazzo reached on a fielder's choice and Ashley Perillo scored. Later they added another run on a single by Victoria Stock to score Jacqui Palmer.
After
Laura Crooks led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a hit to push her hitting streak to 11 games, Struebing belted her fifth home run of the season to bring the score to 12-2.
Each had a solo home run in the fifth inning. Lauren Sauerwein hit one homer for Seton Hill to left field in the top of the fifth inning and then
Brooke Callaghan hit a home run to right centerfield in the bottom of the fifth. The game was called due to the mercy rule after the fifth with the score 13-3.
Kerri Stevens was credited with the loss. She lasted one out in the start and allowed four runs, three hits, and two walks.
Christine Henderson moved to 9-2 after throwing all five innings allowing three runs, three hits, no walks, and struck out nine. She did not allow a base running through the first three innings.
GAME TWO - Seton Hill 1, Edinboro 0Edinboro and Seton Hill each received strong pitching performances in the second game. Through the first three innings, Lenart allowed only three hits and two walks while Seton Hill starter Hope Pehrson gave up one hit and forced eight groundouts before being pulled for Amanda Huff in the fourth inning.

Kalet Lenart had six strikeouts while starting the second game.After a fourth inning that saw just one hit by
Heather Tighe, the Griffins began the fifth inning with Palmer reaching a fielding error and advanced to second base on the play. Palmer then advanced to third base after a sacrifice bunt Cortazzo. Stock then delivered an RBI single to give Seton Hill a 1-0 lead.
Lenart and Huff then retired the next 15 batters straight. With Seton Hill still leading 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Struebing sprung hope into Edinboro with a double to right field.
Shelby Proctor then struck out looking on a controversial third strike to end the game.
Huff earned the victory after pitching four shutout innings, striking out two, and giving up two hits.
Lenart fell to 4-3 this season. The sophomore has 19 strikeouts over her last two starts.
NEXT UP - Sunday, April 19 vs. Pitt-JohnstownPitt-Johnstown comes into Edinboro on Sunday, April 19 after the Fighting Scots take a day off on Saturday. The Lady Cats split its home contest with No. 18 California (Pa.) today and has a 5-21 record and is 5-13 in the PSAC.
