EDINBORO, Pa. (April 22, 2015) – For the second match in a row the Edinboro women's lacrosse team fell victim to a second-half string of goals. It would prove the difference on Wednesday afternoon as the Fighting Scots suffered a 13-8 loss to Gannon in the final match of the season. After getting off to a 6-1 start Edinboro would lose its last eight contests to end the year at 6-9 overall and 3-9 in the PSAC. Gannon is now 7-9 and 4-7, respectively.
Rebecca Martin ended the year with 56 assists.Gannon would jump out to a 5-1 lead before the Fighting Scots closed the first half with a pair of goals in the final 85 seconds to make it 5-3 at the half.
Rachel Olson scored with 1:25 to play, and with just ten seconds remaining
Anna Purdy scored to close the half at 5-3.
Cydney Hrycko scored a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the second half to tie the match at 5-5. Over the next five minutes the two teams exchanged a pair of goals as the score remained tied at 7-7. Purdy knotted the contest at 7-7 with her 26th goal with 20:56 remaining.
Unfortunately, Edinboro failed to score for the next 13 minutes as Gannon ran off six straight goals to take a 13-7 lead.
Rachel Olson's 17th goal of the season with 7:31 to play snapped the run, but neither team would score the rest of the way.
Gannon held a 32-26 advantage in shots, but the Lady Knights owned a 15-8 edge in draw controls. The Fighting Scots were also hampered by 16 turnovers, while Gannon committed 10.
Hrycko and Olson led Edinboro with three goals apiece. Purdy added a pair of goals and an assist.
Rebecca Martin assisted on two goals to bring her season-record total to 56. Freshman
Paige Skinner was strong in goal with a season-high 16 saves.
Anna Purdy had two goals and an assist.
