Fighting Scots Look to Continue Hot Start in PSAC-MEC Crossover

EDINBORO, Pa. (September 16, 2015) – The Edinboro University volleyball team are scorching hot to start the 2015 season. The Fighting Scots bring a 6-1 record into this weekend's PSAC-MEC Crossover, hosted by Gannon at the Hammermill Center, and currently sit in second place in the PSAC West. The action gets underway Friday, September 18 at 5 p.m. as the Fighting Scots face off against West Virginia State, currently 3-2, in an early season rematch. Edinboro was victorious over West Virginia State 3-0 in last weekend's VSU Tournament.
 
The second day of the Crossover event features another early season rematch as Edinboro meets Concord, currently 1-9, for the second time this year. Last time out, the Fighting Scots blanked Concord 3-0 in the opening match of the 2015 season at the Hall of Fame City Challenge. Game time for the early match is set for 12 noon on Saturday. At 2 p.m., Edinboro will face off with Ursuline, who bring a 3-7 record into the contest.
 
Edinboro is currently near the top of the PSAC leaderboards in a few key statistics. The Fighting Scots are ranked third in hitting percentage (.249), second in kills per set (13.29) and eighth in total service aces (46).
 
Individually, junior Victoria Severo, a transfer from Charleston(WV), is ranked fourth in hitting percentage (.386), while sophomore Sydney Trathen is ranked sixth in total assists (258). Sophomore outside hitter Challen Litwiler is ranked seventh in total kills (90) and tied for third in service aces (14).
 
For the second week in a row, a Fighting Scot is the reigning PSAC West Volleyball Player of the Week. Jen Gruber won the honor this week for her performance in the VSU Tournament. Sevoro was the winner for the previous week.
 
The PSAC-MEC Crossover continues a stretch of 15 straight road contests to begin the season. Edinboro does not make its home debut until Tuesday September 29, hosting Daemen at McComb Fieldhouse.
