EDINBORO, Pa. (September 21, 2015) - The Edinboro University volleyball team looks to keep it's hot start to 2015 rolling when they meet Notre Dame(Ohio) on Wednesday, September 23. The Fighting Scots enter the contest winners of the last six matches in a row and are 9-1 overall on the season. The Falcons enter the contest at 1-6. The match gets underway at 7 p.m. in Murphy Gymnasium.
The Fighting Scots are coming off an undefeated weekend of play in the PSAC-MEC Crossover having defeated West Virginia State, Concord and Ursuline in the two-day tournament. Sophomore
Challen Litwiler led the Edinboro attack during the weekend with 42 total kills. Junior
Victoria Severo, currently ranked fourth in the PSAC in hitting percentage(.386), recorded a .396 hitting percentage for the weekend.
Litwiler currently leads the team with 132 kills for the year, while sophomore setter
Sydney Trathen has a team-high 363 assists. Senior
Marah Maycock leads the Fighting Scots defensively with 114 digs for the season. Severo has also been a factor on the defensive side, totaling 24 block assist and six block solo.
Edinboro's
Jen Gruber and Severo have both received recognition for their outstanding play in the young season. Gruber is the reigning PSAC West Volleyball Player of the Week, while Severo was named a D2 Volleyball Gem of the Week last week by HERO Sports.
The 9-1 start is the best since the 2011 team started the year at 11-1.
The non-conference contest against the Falcons continues a stretch of 15 straight road contests to begin the season. Edinboro does not make its home debut until Tuesday, September 29, hosting Daemen at McComb Fieldhouse.
