EDINBORO, Pa. (January 20, 2016) – The Edinboro University women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak to the visiting Vulcans, handing the defending national champions a 73-54 loss on Wednesday night. The Fighting Scots dominated the glass and had a pair of double-doubles en route to their fourth straight victory. Edinboro is now 13-6 overall and holds an 8-5 record in the PSAC West. With the loss, California (Pa.) sits at 11-5 overall and 9-4 in the PSAC West.
The Fighting Scots were defeated by the Vulcans by at least 25 points in the past three contests before tonight's victory.
The Vulcans jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead over the Fighting Scots, six of those points were scored by Precious Martin. California held Edinboro scoreless for just over three minutes of the opening quarter before a
Lauren Hippo free throw got the Fighting Scots on the board. The Vulcans took a 14-10 lead into the second period, but the Fighting Scots opened the period of play with an 20-7 run to grab a nine point lead at 21-30, a lead which they never relinquished.

Aignee' Freeland scored 8 of the next 15 Edinboro points as she finished the first half with a team-high 12 points.
The Vulcans would trim the Edinboro lead to just three points at 47-44 with 2:48 remaining in the third quarter following a 5-0 run. The Fighting Scots answered back with a 7-2 run to close out the third quarter, capped off by a Hippo 3-pointer with just seconds remaining.
The Fighting Scots would separate themselves for good in the fourth quarter, grabbing their biggest lead of the night, as they closed out the game on a 19-2 run to win 73-54.
Aignee' Freeland scored a team-high 23 points.Freeland led the Fighting Scots, picking up her seventh double-double of the season, with a team-high 26 points on 12-of-14 shooting and 13 rebounds. Freeland moved into 9
th all-time on the career scoring list with 1,386 points. Hippo totaled a season-high 23 points and added eight boards. In addition, she blocked a pair of shots and picked up a pair of steals. Hippo is now just 25 points away from scoring her 1,000 career point as a Fighting Scot.
Fischer was the second Fighting Scot to register a double-double, totaling 15 points and 11 assists. Fischer now has five double-doubles this season.
Whitney Allen came off the bench to provide a strong presence on the glass, pulling down 12 rebounds.
Edinboro dominated the boards, holding a 44-27 rebound advantage, including holding the Vulcans to just five defensive rebounds. Seairra Barrett, the PSAC's third leading rebounder, was held to just six boards.
The Fighting Scots also did a nice job neutralizing the PSAC's leading scorer, Miki Glenn. Glenn, who averages 19.8 ppg. was held to just 15 points on 6-of-22 shooting. Glenn was a non-factor in the second half, scoring just two points on 1-of-11 shooting.
The Fighting Scots shot 52.8 percent (28-of-53) from the field, while limiting the Vulcans to just 32.8 percent (22-of-67) and giving up just 2-of-14 3-pointers. Edinboro made a living down low, scoring 40 points in the paint to California's 26.
Edinboro hits the road this weekend, heading to Seton Hill for a Saturday affair. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
