CLARION, Pa. (January 23, 2016) – The Edinboro University women's swimming team posted 10 wins on Saturday to take a PSAC road win at Clarion, 146-139. This marked the third straight year that the Fighting Scots have defeated the Golden Eagles. Edinboro improved to 4-2 while Clarion fell to 2-6.
Juniors
Holly Stein and
Breanna Purnell both led the Scots with four wins apiece while freshman
Anastasiia Semkiv had three victories.
The quartet of
Morgan Joseph,
Holly Stein,
Breanna Purnell, and
Anastasiia Semkiv opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay at a time of 1:50.53. Semkiv, Joseph, and Purnell later teamed up with
Casey Tokarski to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.75.
Purnell won her other two matches by less than one second. She won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.66, winning the race by .77 seconds, and grabbed first place in the 100-yard butterfly, winning by .28 seconds at a time of 1:00.85. Stein placed first in the 100-yard backstroke at a pace of 1:06.59, finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke at a time of 2:25.83, and won in the 200-yard IM, posting a time of 2:13.35.
Semkiv's third win was in the 100-yard freestyle, which she won by .18 seconds with a time of 55.53.
Mary Rosati had a pair of victories in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 11:07.04, and the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:28.53.
