LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Jan. 3, 2016) –
Henri Wade-Chatman matched his career high with 32 points, and
Jaymon Mason added 25 as Edinboro cooled of a hot Lock Haven team with an 87-78 win at Thomas Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots remain in first place in the PSAC West, improving to 7-2 and 8-4 overall. The Bald Eagles, winners of eight of their previous nine games coming in, are now 9-4 overall and 5-4 in the PSAC.
Wade-Chatman posted the season-high 32 points while making 12-of-22 field goals, including 1-of-2 3-pointers, along with 7-of-9 free throws. The senior guard added a season-high six assists, along with four rebounds and three steals while playing all 40 minutes. He moved into 25th place in career scoring with 1,121 points in just 65 games. Wade-Chatman has now scored 20-or-more points in five straight games.
Mason added 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor, including a 3-pointer, plus 8-for-9 at the line. The redshirt sophomore guard pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, as well. It marked the second straight game that Wade-Chatman and Mason each scored 20 points in a game, and the fourth time this year. One of the two standout guards has scored 20 points in a game in all but two games this year.
The Fighting Scots received a big boost off the bench from
Tommy Scales. Edinboro's leading rebounder and third-leading scorer, the 6'8" senior had played just two minutes in Wednesday's game against Thiel after suffering an injury. In fact, he left McComb Fieldhouse on crutches.
On Sunday, Scales came off the bench and contributed 12 points, nine rebounds, and four steals in 27 minutes.
Mikael Anderson, who had missed the Thiel contest with an injury, added six points and six rebounds in a reserve role.
Art Cook joined Mason and Scales with nine rebounds as Edinboro held a 44-31 edge on the glass.
Edinboro never trailed in the game, but would have some anxious moments late in the contest. The Fighting Scots grabbed the lead for good with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half at 14-12 on
Daryan Robinson's jumper.
Tommy ScalesThe lead would grow to 43-30 with 1:35 remaining in the half. After going up bu double figures for the first time at 33-23 on a Mason 3-pointer, Lock Haven countered with five straight points to cut it to 33-28. Edinboro answered with a 10-2 run. Mason hit a pair of free throws, followed by a Scales jumper. After Cole Renninger hit a pair of free throws for the Bald Eagles, a pair of Edinboro steals led to layups by Wade-Chatman for the 43-30 lead.
The Fighting Scots would lead 48-38 at the half. Wade-Chatman scored 17 of his points in the first half, with Mason adding 13.
Edinboro's lead would grow to as much as 13 points twice in the second half, the last at 81-68 with 5:18 to play on Mason's 3-point play. Lock Haven responded with a 10-2 run to cut the margin to 83-78 with 1:28 to play when Lamin Fulton made a 3-pointer.
The Fighting Scots would score the last four points of the game as the defense forced three Lock Haven misses. Mason's jumper with just over a minute to play gave the Fighting Scots some breathing room, and Wade-Chatman iced the win with a pair of free throws.
Edinboro shot 50.8 percent from the floor (33-of-65), including 5-of-11 on 3-pointers. The Fighting Scots made 16-of-23 free throws. Lock Haven relied on the 3-pointer, making 10-of-20 shots from outside the arc, while shooting 41.5 percent for the game (27-of-65). The Bald Eagles made 14-of-19 free throws. Edinboro committed 15 turnovers and Lock Haven 13.
Lock Haven featured four players in double figures, led by Bootsie Walker and Al Blount with 14 apiece. Renninger added 11 points and Fulton 10.
Edinboro returns to action on Wednesday, January 6 hosting Bloomsburg. Tipoff at McComb Fieldhoues is set for 7:30 p.m.
