Wade-Chatman Nets 24 Points as Scots Fall in Overtime at Clarion

CLARION, Pa. (January 9, 2016) – Senior guard Henri Wade-Chatman turned in a game-high 24 points Saturday, connecting on 4-of-6 3-pointers, but it was not enough to give Edinboro a PSAC win at Clarion, falling to the Golden Eagles in overtime, 74-68. The Fighting Scots dropped to 9-5 overall and 8-3 in the PSAC West while Clarion improved to 9-8 overall and 6-5 in the PSAC West.
 
Edinboro saw its three-game win streak come to an end while Clarion ended a two-game losing streak. After going six straight games shooting over 40 percent, Edinboro shot just 37.7 percent from the field (23-for-61). They were 75.0 percent shooting from the charity stripe (15-for-20) and 36.8 percent from 3-point range (7-for-19). Clarion was held to 16.7 percent from behind the arc (3-for-18) while shooting 39.1 percent (27-for-69) from the field. They were 65.4 percent from the free throw line (17-for-26).
 
The Fighting Scots committed 15 turnovers, which Clarion converted into 12 points. Although Clarion had 17 turnovers, Edinboro could only total 12 turnover points. The Scots were outscored in the paint, 38-26 and were outrebounded, 47-36. Clarion would account for 10 blocked shots, compared to three for Edinboro.
 
Wade-Chatman shot 9-for-19 from the floor and tied a team-high with six rebounds in 44 minutes of play. Redshirt sophomore guard Jaymon Mason would be the only other Scot to score in double figures, registering 15 points and shooting 8-for-8 from the free throw line while playing 43 minutes. He was 3-for-11 from the field and 1-for-5 from 3-point range. Senior center Daryan Robinson also had six rebounds.
 
The first half appeared to be in favor of the Fighting Scots, as they held a 23-15 lead with 7:49 to go in the opening half. The Golden Eagles responded with a 6-0 run to close the gap at two with 6:11 remaining in the period. Edinboro then went on a 5-0 run, using a pair of layups by Sheldon Brogdon and Anderson and a free throw by Anderson, to take a 28-21 lead with 4:35 to go in the half. The Scots were held scoreless for the remainder of the half, as Clarion used an 8-0 run to take a 29-28 lead into halftime.
 
After shooting 34.5 percent in the first half (10-for-29), Edinboro turned up the heat in the second half, shooting 46.2 percent (12-for-26) and 4-for-7 from behind the arc, three of which came from Wade-Chatman. His third 3-pointer gave Edinboro a 10-point lead, its largest lead of the game, at 54-44 with 10:01 remaining in regulation. Clarion responded with a 9-2 run to draw within three at 56-53 with 6:07 to go in the second half. Over the next four minutes, the Scots attempted to extend their lead, but the Golden Eagles kept responding to keep the game close. Clarion tied the game at 62 with 1:40 left in regulation on a pair of free throws by Andre' Anthony after being fouled by Mikael Anderson. Je'Land Head answered for Edinboro with a layup, but Rob Agurs would send the game to overtime on a pair of free throws.
 
Heading into overtime tied at 64, senior center Tommy Scales buried a jumper on the Scots' opening possession to give them a 66-64 lead. But that would be Edinboro's only field goal of the overtime period. Clarion responded with a 5-0 run, with layups from Andre' Anthony and Tim Gill. The Scots drew within one at 69-68 with 1:19 remaining on a free throw by Daryan Robinson, but Clarion ended the game on another 5-0 run, all of which were free throws, to hand Edinboro its fifth loss.
 
Wade-Chatman moved to 20th all-time at Edinboro in career points with 1,157 points. He also moved into seventh all-time in career 3-pointers with 138. Scales finished as Edinboro's fourth-leading scorer with six points while grabbing three rebounds, his lowest rebounding total of the season. Anderson came off the bench and totaled nine points with four rebounds.
 
Clarion had five players score in double digits, with senior forward Tim Gill scoring a team-high 18 points. Senior forward Rob Agurs finished second on the team with 16 points and a game-high nine boards.
 
Edinboro returns home on Saturday, January 16 when they take on PSAC opponent Pitt-Johnstown at 3:00 p.m.
