SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (November 20, 2016) – Behind the strength of 26 second chance points and 20 points off turnovers, the Edinboro University women's basketball team picked up a scrappy, 64-57, victory at the PSAC East preseason favorite Shippensburg for their third straight victory. With the win, Edinboro improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC while the Raiders suffered their first loss of the season to drop to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Edinboro capitalized on 20 offensive rebounds to hold a 26-9 advantage in second chance points. The Fighting Scots received a huge boost off the bench from a trio of Fighting Scots. Senior
Maggie Moore grabbed a game-high 13 boards, including six offensive rebounds, to go along with her seven points.
Cheniya Sharpe came up just shy of her first career double-double, totaling nine points and nine rebounds. The sophomore guard also picked up a pair of steals.
Jontay Walton contributed eight points, five boards, and a team-high three steals.
The backcourt duo of
Katie Fischer and
Michelle Jahn led Edinboro with 20 and 12 points respectively. Jahn found her stroke from beyond-the-arc, tying a season-high with four 3-pointers.

Once again the Fighting Scots took advantage of sloppy play from an opponent, turning 16 turnovers into 20 points. Edinboro forced 22 turnovers in yesterday's PSAC opening victory over Millersville, which they turned into 18 points.
Edinboro won the battle on the boards, 44-37. The Raiders actually outshot the Fighting Scots from the floor, finishing 21-of-47 (44.7 pct.) compared to Edinboro's 22-for-65 (33.8 pct.) performance. The Fighting Scots were also whistled for a pair of technical fouls in the contest.
The Fighting Scots lived up to their name in Sunday's contest, fighting and scrapping the whole way through. The Raiders led for 30:28 and Edinboro didn't taste the lead until 2:27 remaining in the third quarter. The Fighting Scots found themselves down big in the early going as the Raiders opened the game on 15-4 run, including scoring the first nine points of the game. Shippensburg took a 24-16 lead at the end of one quarter, but the Fighting Scots began to chip away at the deficit
Edinboro cut the Raider lead to just one point at half time thanks to a pair of free throws from Sharpe as the clock wound down. Sharpe grabbed the offensive board and was fouled with two seconds remaining, dropping in both free throws to cut the score to 33-32. Trailing 40-35 early in the third quarter, the Fighting Scots orchestrated an 8-2 run to take their first lead of the game at 43-42 with 2:27 remaining in the third. Edinboro got a pair of buckets from seniors Fischer and Moore during the stretch. The Raiders quickly regained the lead and took a 46-45 advantage into the final stanza.
The Fighting Scots regained the lead for good in the final quarter thanks to a 12-4 opening run. Fischer was fouled on a 3-pt. attempt and converted all three free throw attempts to give Edinboro a 48-46 lead. Fischer added another jumper, followed by a
Ciara Rosten layup and Jahn 3-pointer as the Fighting Scots lead grew to 55-50. Edinboro took their biggest lead of the contest at nine points with 45 seconds remaining on a pair of free throws from Walton.
Shippensburg featured a pair of double-digit scorers, led by Stephanie Knauer with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Logan Snyder added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Morgan Griffith finished with a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Fighting Scots will receive a break for Thanksgiving before returning to the hardwood. Edinboro will host West Liberty in a non-conference contest on Monday, November 28, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
