Michelle Jahn Shoots Down West Chester as Edinboro Wins Sixth Straight, 75-57

EDINBORO, Pa. – With Michelle Jahn setting the tone early, the Edinboro women's basketball team posted its sixth straight win with a 75-57 triumph over West Chester on Sunday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots improved to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC with the crossover win. West Chester is now 2-4 and 2-2, respectively.

Jahn started on fire in the first quarter, dropping in a career-high six 3-pointers in the first ten minutes. The sophomore guard scored 18 of Edinboro's 21 points as the Fighting Scots jumped out to a 21-14 lead, including the last eight points of the quarter.  Edinboro made 6-of-8 3-pointers in the first quarter.

West Chester would slow Jahn down after that, but other Fighting Scots stepped up as ten players scored.  The Golden Rams never pulled closer than five points the rest of the way, with Edinboro closing the second quarter on a 9-2 run to build the lead to 40-28. Jahn had four free throws during that stretch to finish the first half with 22 points.

Jahn ended the day with 27 points, one shy of her career-high. She made 7-of-12 field goals, including 7-of-8 3-pointers, and was 6-of-8 at the line. She added four steals.

Ciara Rosten and Michaela Barnes added 10 points apiece for the Fighting Scots. Katie Fischer was held to a season-low six points while battling foul trouble, but the senior guard contributed seven assists and a pair of steals.

Maggie Moore turned in another strong effort off the bench with seven points and a game-high eight rebounds, while Cheniya Sharpe grabbed seven boards in a reserve role.

Edinboro shot 37.5 percent from the floor (24-of-64), while West Chester was at 42.9 percent (21-of-49). However, the Fighting Scots made good on 8-of-18 3-pointers while the Golden Rams missed all six of their shots from beyond the arc. In addition, Edinboro made 19-of-29 free throws, with WCU at 15-of-25.

The Fighting Scots would commit 19 turnovers in the contest, but they forced 26 West Chester turnovers, leading to a 30-15 advantage in points off turnovers.

West Chester had a pair of players in double figures, with Porscha Speller scoring 13 points and Tori Smick 12. The Fighting Scots held leading scorer Madison Torresin to eight points.

Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, December 10, hosting Cheyney in another PSAC crossover contest. That game gets underway at 1 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse.
