Turnover-Plagued Fighting Scots Fall at California (Pa.), 83-52, in Regular Season Finale, Will Host Mercyhurst in First Round of PSAC Tournament

CALIFORNIA, Pa. (February 24, 2016) – The Edinboro University women's basketball team stumbled in the regular season finale, 83-52, against California (Pa.) in the Convocation Center on Wednesday night. With the loss, Edinboro wraps up the regular season 19-9 overall and clinch the fourth seed in the PSAC West with a 14-7 conference record and will host Mercyhurst on Saturday in the first round of the PSAC Tournament. The Vulcans clinched the top seed in the PSAC West with a 21-5 overall record and an 18-4 mark in the conference.
 
The turnover-riddled Fighting Scots had seven of their season-high 25 turnovers in the first quarters as Cal jumped out to a 23-11 lead at the end of the opening period.

The Vulcans opened the second quarter with a 12-4 run to lead 35-15 with 5:27 left in the half and entered the locker room leading 38-25 after a 10-3 Edinboro run to close out the first half. Aignee' Freeland scored nine of Edinboro's ten points during the stretch.
 
Cal took a 48-27 lead with 7:34 left in the third quarter thanks to a 10-2 run to open the second half and built the lead to as many as 31 points in the fourth quarter. The Vulcans shot 57.5 percent (15-of-26) from the field in the second half and forced 12 Edinboro turnovers.
 
Edinboro shot 39.0 percent (23-of-59) from the field and were held without a 3-pointer for the first time this season, going 0-of-9 from beyond the arc. The season-high 25 turnovers were cashed in for 30 points by the Vulcans and the Fighting Scots were outrebounded by Cal, 38-36, just the second time Edinboro has been beaten on the glass in the past eight contests.
 
Freeland was Edinboro's leading scorer, finishing with 25 points on 12-of-17 shooting. Katie Fischer finished with ten points and five assists, while Maggie Moore came off the bench to contribute six points and a team-high six rebounds.
 
Miki Glenn led a trio of Vulcans in double-figures, finishing with 19 points and seven assists. Seairra Barrett picked up her 13th double-double of the season, totaling 18 points and 12 boards. Shatara Parsons added 17 points, eight boards, and a pair of blocks.
 
Edinboro will return to McComb Fieldhouse this Saturday, February 27, making their seventh straight PSAC Tournament appearance. The fourth-seeded Fighting Scots will host local rival and fifth seed Mercyhurst in a first round matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
