EDINBORO, Pa. (March 25, 2016) – The Edinboro University women's lacrosse team played host to PSAC foe and sixth-ranked Lock Haven on Friday, falling to the Bald Eagles by a 15-7 decision on a cold afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium. The Fighting Scots dropped to 5-3 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC, while Lock Haven climbed to 8-0 and 4-0, respectively. LHU was ranked sixth by the IWLCA heading into Friday.
Rebecca Martin led the Scots with four points on two goals and two assists.
Cydney Hrycko finished with a team-high three goals, as
Anna Purdy and
Alexa Healy each contributed a goal of their own, with Healy registering her first goal of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper
Paige Skinner collected eight saves as she dropped to 4-3 on the year. Lock Haven's Hayley Kilian finished with a match-high five points, with Hope Thomas registering a match-high four goals. Goalie Hannah Houde picked up four saves in 45 minutes of action to run her record to 8-0.
The Fighting Scots drew first blood when Martin drove a shot past Houde from inside the circle for a 1-0 lead with 27:51 remaining in the first half. The Bald Eagles evened the match 15 seconds later off a free position goal by Hope Thomas, followed by two more goals to take a 3-1 lead. Hrycko drew Edinboro to within one goal off a pass from Martin with 22:51 left in the half. The Bald Eagles responded with seven goals to finish out the half, interrupted by Martin's second goal of the contest, for a 10-3 advantage at intermission.
The Haven began the second half with goals by Alex O'Herrick and Kilian to give them their largest lead of the match at 12-3 with 24:33 remaining. The Edinboro squad continued to hang tight as Hrycko again found the back of the net off an assist by Martin to cut the Bald Eagles' lead to eight goals with 20:41 left to play. After a Hope Thomas goal put LHU back up by nine goals, the Boro tallied a trio of goals by Hrycko, Healy and Purdy to pull to within six goals with 3:28 to go. That would be as close as the Scots would get, as Lock Haven closed out the contest with a pair of goals by Karli Gilbert.
Lock Haven outshot Edinboro, 35-18, with 23 shots on goal to the Scots' 14. The Bald Eagles completed 9-of-11 clear attempts, while the Fighting Scots completed 10-of-15. Edinboro led LHU in saves, 8-7, and grabbed 18 ground balls as the Haven picked up 17.
The Scots finish a three-match stretch against nationally-ranked opponents on Tuesday, March 29, when they host local PSAC rival and seventh-ranked Mercyhurst at 4:00 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
