MINNEOLA, Fla. (March 7, 2016) – The Edinboro softball team saved its best for last on the second day of the spring trip, rallying from four down against Assumption for an 8-6 win. The Fighting Scots opened the day with a slim 3-2 loss to Walsh. With the split, Edinboro is back even at 2-2 this season.
Kylie Mason served as the rally starter, jacking a two-run homer to deep center field in the win against Assumption. Mason finished the contest with two hits, three RBIs and a base on balls.
The Fighting Scots are back in action tomorrow, March 8, taking on Le Moyne at 3 p.m. before finishing the day against Ashland in a nightcap at 7 p.m.
Game One – Walsh 3, Edinboro 2For the third straight contest, Edinboro got on the scoreboard first.
Kylie Mason took home on a wild pitch to put the Fighting Scots up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Walsh responded in the next inning, using back-to-back singles to set up a Kelsey Putman two-RBI double followed by a Reagan Rito RBI single to take a 3-1 lead.

MaryLouise Lindner as the Fighting Scots cut the deficit to 3-2 heading to the third inning.
That was all the offense Edinboro could muster up, however, as Olivia Pifer came in to relieve Walsh starting pitcher Ryan Kuula, giving up just three hits in five innings work and striking out 10 batters.
Edinboro threatened in the bottom of the fifth, putting runners on first and second following a
Brooke Callaghan double and a
Theresa Fleckenstein single.
Danna Heh came in to run for Fleckenstein, stealing third to put two runners in scoring position with two outs. Unfortunately, the Scots couldn't capitalize, striking out on the next at-bat.
Kerri Stevens got her first start of the season, pitching six innings and striking out three. Walsh's Pifer improved to 3-2 with the win.
Game Two – Edinboro 8, Assumption 6The Fighting Scots found themselves in an unfamiliar position against Assumption heading into third inning, trailing early. The Greyhounds scored a run in the first inning before an Ashley Clark double in the second inning brought in three runs for a quick 4-0 lead.

Brooke Callaghan singled to left center, driving in the third run of the inning. Callagahn stole second on the next at-bat and
Theresa Fleckenstein brought her home with a double down the left field line.
The Fighting Scots added three more runs in the fourth inning thanks to a pair of RBI singles by Mason and
Taylor Payne and a
Haley Struebing RBI groundout. Edinboro added another insurance run in the fifth inning to take a 8-4 lead following a
Olivia Jankowski pinch hit RBI triple.
Assumption refused to quit, threatening late in the game thanks to a Julia Mazzeo two-run homer, but were held scoreless the remained of the game as Edinboro held on to win, 8-6.
Carley Nasca recorded her second win of the season, pitching five innings and striking out three while giving up just three hits. Kendal Roy took the loss for the Greyhounds, dropping to 1-2 on the season after giving up 11 hits and eight runs.
